The Genius of Alexander Grothendieck, the father of modern algebraic geometry: Alexander Grothendieck was a mathematical genius who revolutionized algebraic geometry and influenced many other fields of pure mathematics. He was born in Berlin in 1928 to anarchist parents who had fled from Russia and Germany, respectively. He grew up in France, where he studied mathematics and became a leading figure at the Institut des hautes études scientifiques (IHÉS). He received the Fields Medal in 1966 for his contributions to algebraic geometry, homological algebra, and K-theory. He developed a new abstract and general framework for geometry, using concepts such as schemes, topoi, cohomology, and motives. He also proved the Weil conjectures and generalized the Riemann-Roch theorem. He was known for his extraordinary intuition, ingenuity, and vision, as well as his eccentric and unconventional personality. He left IHÉS in 1970 due to his political and ethical convictions, and later renounced his mathematical work and withdrew from the world. He spent the last decades of his life in seclusion in a small village in the Pyrenees, writing about philosophy, religion, and environmental issues. He died in 2014 at the age of 86.

J. Robert Oppenheimer was accused of being a communist sympathizer and had his security clearance revoked in 1954 by the Atomic Energy Commission after a controversial hearing. He was later exonerated by the U.S. government in 2022, nearly five decades after his death.

Wheeler's Delayed Choice Experiment: ⚛ Named after physicist John Archibald Wheeler, this experiment is a mind-boggling exploration of quantum mechanics. It demonstrates that light (and by extension, other quantum particles) can seemingly "decide" whether to act as a particle or wave after it has already been measured. The experiment throws the traditional cause-effect principle into question and is a fascinating illustration of the counterintuitive nature of the quantum world.

Schrödinger's Cat is a thought experiment: 🐈 Schrödinger's cat is a thought experiment, often described as a paradox, devised by Austrian physicist Erwin Schrödinger in 1935. It illustrates the concept of superposition in quantum theory and the problem of the Copenhagen interpretation when applied to everyday objects. In the experiment, a cat is placed in a sealed box with a radioactive source, a Geiger counter, and a vial of poison. If the Geiger counter detects radiation, the vial is broken, releasing the poison and killing the cat. Quantum theory suggests that the cat is both dead and alive until the box is opened to observe the cat. Only upon observation does the cat become either alive or dead, not both. This thought experiment is used to explore the bizarre ways in which small particles like atoms and photons behave, as described by quantum mechanics.

The forgotten Physics genius 📰 Oliver Heaviside was a self-taught British physicist and electrical engineer who made crucial contributions to electromagnetism and telecommunications. He simplified Maxwell's equations using vector calculus, making them more accessible to other scientists. Heaviside also predicted the existence of the ionosphere, which enabled long-distance radio communication, and developed the theory of transmission lines and operational calculus. Despite being overlooked during his lifetime due to his lack of formal education and unconventional personality, Heaviside's work laid the foundation for modern electrical engineering and physics.

Did you know that Robert Oppenheimer was a multi-talented scholar? In elementary school, he completed the 3rd and 4th grades in 1 year and skipped half of the 8th grade. He was the youngest member of the New York Mineralogical Society and was Nobel Prize nominee 1945, 51, and 67.
