10 years defending Android native development. 3 books published. Conference stages telling people cross-platform was compromise. Then I tried Flutter from my Italian mountain town and everything I preached crumbled. I used to think real developers wrote platform-specific code. Kotlin for Android, Swift for iOS. Anything else was for lazy devs who couldn't handle "real" programming. Cuneo forced my hand. No iOS developers within 100 kilometers. My indie apps needed both platforms or they'd die. First Flutter project, I expected pain. Clunky widgets, performance issues, the usual cross-platform disasters. Instead I shipped StreakUp, a daily habit tracker, to both App Store and Play Store in half the time. Then 3 Things, my focus app. Then AI Bedtime Stories, which reads custom stories to kids. Then six more apps. Same codebase. Same performance. Same native feel. All those conference talks about "platform purity" suddenly felt like religious arguments about programming languages from 2003. The hardest part wasn't learning Dart or widget trees. It was admitting I'd been wrong for a decade. Now I ship faster than Android-only developers while reaching twice the audience. Sometimes the best technical decisions happen when you stop caring about what other developers think. What platform wars are you still fighting that don't matter anymore?

Negligent people echoed "premature optimization is the root of all evil" and started refusing to make any optimizations at all. Then called themselves a senior developer and picked up the big sums for 50 lines of code a day. No wonder that "writing code" is seen as a revolution.

Devs will see advice like, "You don't need perfection" and use it as an excuse to write the most horrendous slop.
software development in 2026 is going to require some to loosen up a little code doesn't have to be as perfectly crafted the way we did it pre-ai call it slop if you want, but if you're still demanding perfection on every pr while your competitors are shipping "slop" that works... you're fighting from a disadvantaged position shipping velocity matters more than perfection

I didn't have $1 million for a Game Awards Trailer so I'm posting my ASCII 3D RPG game here instead for free!
A 3 minute trailer at the Game Awards now costs up to $1 million Via Kotaku

It's time for Microsoft to have another XPSP2 moment. No more AI, no more features. Just fixes. When I was working on Windows XP, Blaster hit. It was a big enough deal that we set aside all feature work. For the next several months, all we did was improve security. We didn't add "security features"; we fixed bugs. Lots of bugs. Until there weren't security bugs to fix anymore. Then we fixed the ones we didn't know about yet. Put more simply, we stopped trying to "add value" to the product through features that PMs thought users would like, and instead we focused on the things that had been important for a long time, but overlooked. Like performance and configurability today. Rather than trying to improve and add value to the system through new AI features -now-, I argue it's time for Microsoft to stabilize, improve, and make the system more performant. And more usable for power users. Just for one release. Just till it doesn't suck.

Never thought the day would come that MVI is seen for what it is. Eight years ago, this would be downvoted into oblivion, for questioning the latest developments of the web, and the "Redux paradigm". People are now more eager to solve real problems, instead of writing reducers.

The new godot UI theme has been merged and is on its way to be the new default! I consider godot to be one of the most important software projects of our time and it's a huge privilege to be able to contribute to it. Happy to see it grow ❤️

Still on Java 17 and planning to upgrade? ☕️ Skip 21 and go straight to 25. Java 25 provides memory efficiency gains and garbage collection improvements with zero code changes. Align it with your Spring Framework 7/Spring Boot 4 upgrade. Strong recommendation by @springjuergen
