As a whole, humans throw away more than 1 billion tonnes of food every year. This is a tremendous waste of resources and a major driver of climate change. But there is plenty that can be done to ensure that food ends up nourishing rather than polluting. Seven ways to cut food waste: ow.ly/hSLU50ZMw0t

β€œThe fact that [scientists] accurately predicted these horrific consequences we’re experiencing right now should give us reason to pay more attention to what they’re warning about if we don’t change.” Our founder, @algore, sat down with CNA while in Singapore for our 64th Climate Reality training to talk about what scientists have been warning us about for years β€” and why we need to take those warnings seriously now. He also spoke candidly about claims from political leaders that the climate crisis is a β€œhoax,” what the clean energy transition is already showing us, and where climate leadership could go from here. Modern slavery doesn’t involve iron chains, it thrives through systematic coercion, economic traps, and deep-seated discrimination based on work and descent. Across our continent and diaspora, millions are held in conditions that strip them of their human rights.. Dismantling every structure that permits human trafficking and forced labor starts with recognizing the hidden mechanics of exploitation. But our ultimate strength lies in collective action: when ordinary people organize, mobilize, and act together, we transform unjust systems into lasting freedom. Join the movement #AfricansRising today!

Reducing food loss is not only about producing more food. It is about making our food systems work better. Across the food value chain, better markets, stronger infrastructure, improved storage and processing, and more circular approaches can help ensure that what is produced delivers greater value for farmers, communities and economies. Our new documentary takes a closer look at what happens to food beyond the farm and what food loss and waste mean for the future of Africa’s food systems. As Africa works to strengthen food security and build climate resilience, reducing losses across the food system must be part of the solution. πŸŽ₯Watch the full documentary

Organised by AFSA in collaboration with the Ethiopian Ministry of Planning and Development, the three-day gathering runs from September 7 to 9, 2026, at the Inter Luxury Hotel in Addis Ababa, and is shaping up to be one of the continent's most significant climate convenings this year, bringing together farmers, pastoralists, fisherfolk, indigenous communities, youth and women's networks, researchers, negotiators, government officials and policymakers from across Africa. Government officials and policymakers are integral participants in the Convening, not merely guests at its opening. The programme's official opening features H.E. Dr. Fitsum Assefa, Ethiopia's Minister for Planning and Development, delivering the official opening address, alongside remarks from H.E. Demeke Mekonnen, Nutrition Ambassador and former Deputy Prime Minister of Ethiopia. A keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Antwi-Boasiako Amoah, Chair of the African Group of Negotiators (AGN). Government representatives continue to participate alongside civil society throughout the three days, including a dedicated Day Two panel with government representatives on national priorities for #COP31 and #COP32.
