How about a recall petition?

Of everything John Healey announced today, my favourite is the Pension Tax Allowance: a tax break for pensioners worth, at the very most, ยฃ94 a year, which exists, according to the Treasury's own guidance, to spare them the "administrative burden" of a letter from HMRC asking for "a relatively small amount of tax".
Why would a pensioner living on nothing but the state pension be getting a tax bill at all? Because the personal allowance has been frozen at ยฃ12,570 since 2021, Labour has stretched the freeze to 2031, and from next April the full state pension, ยฃ13,036.40, sails straight over it. So instead of unfreezing the allowance - the honest thing, the thing you could explain to a child - Healey has built a second allowance on top of the first, to cancel out the damage done by the first, for three years, after which it goes "under review", which is Treasury for "in the bin".
And since nothing this Treasury makes is permitted to work cleanly, the thing tapers away. Between ยฃ13,037 and ยฃ13,319 a year, every extra ยฃ3 a pensioner earns costs them ยฃ1.60 in tax. That is a marginal rate of 53%. A 70-year-old doing a few hours a week behind a till will hand over a bigger share of each extra pound than a millionaire does on his bonus.
Meanwhile a 30-year-old cleaner on exactly the same income, ยฃ13,036, will pay ยฃ93.28 - the very sum Healey's own guidance waives for the pensioner standing next to her at the bus stop.
The freeze costs a full-time worker on the minimum wage ยฃ759 a year. Labour signed up to taking that off every one of them until 2031, and today Healey expects applause for handing ยฃ94 back to some pensioners, for three years, with an expiry date stamped on the bottom.
Progress would end the freeze outright. We would restore the personal allowance to the level it would have reached had it never been frozen, about ยฃ15,480 today, lock it to inflation for good, and make any future freeze impossible without a vote of Parliament. One allowance, for everyone, worth having. The pensioner comes out of tax, the cleaner comes out of tax, and HMRC is spared the administrative burden of writing to either of them.

Pensioners who are on state pension only have ยฃ13,000 per annum to live on.
MPs have nearly ยฃ100,000 per annum, plus expenses, help with heating, subsidized meals and alcohol in the House of Commons. They get a golden goodbye when booted out. They get gold plated pensions.
And that b1tch Miriam Cates thinks it's old people who are the problem. ๐๐คฌ

To any young ones out there who think the state pension doesnโt matter or should go โ please take a moment to listen. My husband is about to retire. Heโs paid into workplace pensions for over 40 years, working process and manual jobs. Not high-paid roles, just decent above-average wages for that kind of work. He stayed at one place for 18 years and another for well over 20. Over that time the companies changed schemes and pots โ things he had no say in โ and sorting it all out now has been a right hassle. Workplace pensions do have a big advantage: the employer pays in as well (under the rules itโs at least 3% of qualifying earnings, on top of what you put in). If you were only paying into your own private pension today, you wouldnโt automatically get that employer money. Even so, after all those years of him and his employers putting money in โ amounts that could easily add up to several thousand pounds a year in total contributions โ heโs looking at something that, if heโs lucky, might cover roughly half a monthโs wage each month from the whole lot in retirement. A lot of ordinary workers end up in a similar position. Changing jobs means multiple pots, contributions can be at the minimum levels, and growth doesnโt always turn into the kind of income people hope for once fees, markets and inflation are taken into account. Itโs doubtful many of you will build a private pension that does much better on its own. The state pension is still the safety net underneath all of that. Right now the full new state pension is around ยฃ241 a week (just over ยฃ12,500 a year), and it rises under the triple lock. For people who havenโt built huge private pots โ which is most of us who arenโt in high-paid jobs โ it makes a real difference. Support it and fight to keep it strong. Itโs your safety net too, not just for the generation retiring now.

๐จJohnson Governmentโs Care-Home Failures: Inquiry Confirms Catastrophe, Yet No One Faces Criminal Charges
Days after the COVID Inquiry branded Boris Johnsonโs government an โafterthoughtโ on care homes, campaigners demand answers on why no misconduct prosecutions have followed. The Module 6 report, released 20 October 2026, found policy failuresโincluding discharging untested hospital patients without isolation adviceโlet the virus โspread like wildfire,โ contributing to more than 43,000 care-home deaths involving COVID between March 2020 and July 2022. Hancockโs โprotective ringโ claim was simply unfounded.
A 2022 High Court ruling had already declared those early discharge policies unlawful for ignoring known asymptomatic transmission risks. Ministers acted under immense pressure and incomplete advice, the courts noted, yet the scale of avoidable harm remains undisputed. With the inquiry confirming systemic neglect of the most vulnerable, the absence of criminal accountability looks less like due process and more like the establishment protecting its own. Families deserve more than reports and apologies.
