Canada is losing ground economically. The global order is shifting and Ottawa seems to be operating as though nothing has fundamentally changed.
I sat down with @DrJStrategy, PhD economist and Chief Market Strategist at @WellingtonAltus, to unpack some uncomfortable realities:
Canada's GDP per capita has fallen.
Business investment per worker is going in the wrong direction.
The productivity gap with the United States is widening.
And the Pax Americana that Canada has relied on since 1945 may be coming to an end.

Pretty easy to look this up. It’s a lot less than 100 years..
Clinton lost 54 House and 8 Senate seats in 1994.
Obama lost 63 House seats in 2010 and 6 Senate seats in 2014.
Republicans projected loss is 43 House and 7 Senate seats.

Cut fucking taxes and let the market decide instead of you, who know absolutely nothing about the venture capital sector.

Jeremy, STFU.
Charlie was my actual, real-world friend. It is therefore completely normal for me to be fixated on discovering the truth regarding his public execution.
You are too obtuse to recognize that your psychotic obsession with a former contractor is categorically NOT the same and is therefore, wholly inappropriate. Charlie did not like you. He never worked with you. You pretending otherwise is just an extension of your years-long obsession with me.
You’re just an utterly deranged, talentless and obsessed former CEO with no comprehensible future beyond stalking a woman you worked with once upon a time.
The good news is that people see how mentally unfit you are. No one takes you seriously, and deep down, you know that no one ever will again. You will never have an audience beyond the cockroach traces of relevancy you desperately chase by trying to associate yourself with my name for clicks.
Imagine believing that disagreeing with your preferred political ideology makes someone disloyal to an entire country.
This is not patriotism. ..it’s just tribalism dressed up as moral superiority.

For decades it has been unfashionable across much of the West to discuss Christianity except in historical or condescending terms. That pattern is shifting.
Pope Leo XIV’s open-air Mass in the Place de la Concorde drew an estimated 800,000 people, filling the square and the length of the Champs-Élysées. The scale of the spontaneous assembly astonished observers in a city long marked by anti-clerical tradition.
The phenomenon is more consequential than episodic student unrest. It signals the practical exhaustion of secularist hostility to spiritual values and of progressive assumptions about the perfectibility of man. Historical experience suggests that religious vacuums tend to be filled by destructive ideologies or by charismatic pretenders to absolute authority.
In the face of demographic and cultural pressures, including militant Islam, atheism is increasingly perceived as an inadequate substitute; soulless in conception and limited in practical resilience. The recovery of respect for Judeo-Christian foundations does not imply a return to earlier forms of religious militancy. But it does indicate a renewed determination to defend the civilizational inheritance those foundations have sustained.

Oh the irony of arguing for digital sovereignty by demanding the government ban a private internet provider…apparently sovereignty means Canadians should have less choice so the government can have more control.
In the idea of becoming an associate member of the European Union, what are the benefits? But the more important question - is it worth shunning one of its greatest allies in the process, and potentially losing our identity as an independent country?
We discuss w/ @ConradMBlack if it is an enticing prospect and why it might be a fatal blow to Canada’s economic prospects. Episode drops tonight - 6:00 pm

if governments can call an election early whenever the political circumstances are most favourable to them, then fixed election dates is basically a suggestion, and the this system risks becoming a tool for protecting political power rather than serving the public
Trump is attacking our jobs, driving up our costs and threatening our ability to make decisions for ourselves, in our own country, for our own people. He wants to make Canada and B.C. an extension of America.
For B.C. and for Canada, this is an existential moment. We have to decide as a province how we respond, and British Columbians deserve a say.
That's why today I called an election for October 24.
When Trump came after Canada, I didn't flinch. We pulled American liquor off the shelves and hit back where it hurt.
I'm working with the Prime Minister to hold the line, and we've got a plan to stand up to Trump, protect workers and businesses, and build a stronger B.C. that's less dependent on the U.S.
It's making a difference. But the job is far from done.
The conservative parties would cozy up to Trump, make cuts, raise costs and invite U.S. corporations into our health care. With Trump at our door, we cannot afford their chaos.
That's the choice in front of us.
Join me in standing up for Canada, in saying hell no to Donald Trump and his politics, and in building a stronger B.C. for all of us.
Ignorance is bliss
Dear Alberta separatists:
An independent nation of Alberta would be landlocked.
You'd have no way of moving your oil to market without going thru Canada.
You'll have to negotiate with us and I guarantee you we'll be in no mood to be accommodating.
We'll be a nation well on its way toward energy and financial independence from oil especially without you.
Who will want to develop your oil under those conditions? Only the Americans. You'll rapidly become the 51st state.
Independence is a delusional suicide mission toward becoming Americans.

Business and economic strategist David Knight Legg says he’s seeing a major shift toward Option 2 among Alberta’s professional class.
Senior, thoughtful Albertans are increasingly telling him they’re “100%” voting Option 2 to force Ottawa to finally take Alberta seriously.

I say this as gently as I can: at some point one has to ask whether we have become slightly delusional. We are a country of forty million people, sharing a continent and an undefended border with the largest economy and the largest military in human history, sending them the overwhelming majority of everything we produce. And we have decided the appropriate posture is escalation?
How much have we given to Ukraine?
This is a drop in the bucket TO OUR OWN COUNTRY
Thanks to Prime Minister @MarkJCarney and the federal government, Calgary's water system is getting a major upgrade. Canada is investing $29M alongside $94M from the City to build a new route north from Bearspaw. Kudos to Councillor @JenniferWyness, whose years of advocacy helped get it moving.
