While Andy Burnham dithers, @ZackPolanski has been clear - @TheGreenParty would reverse the creeping privatisation of the NHS, kick Palantir out - and abolish the undemocratic House of Lords.

Bison were reintroduced to Britain four years ago at Wilder Blean near Whitstable - great move. Bison is a keystone species - they debark trees, open up woodland, spread seeds and create wallows for insects and plants. Five moved up to Cumbria this year. Where next?

Nantucket, MA banned chain stores downtown back in 2006 but they’re proving hard to shake off. This year a Roller Rabbit boutique got shut down for violating the ban, then reopened weeks later as “Roller Rabbit General Store” with the same logo on the door.

Heroes at @GreenpeaceUK have dropped boulders in a British marine protected area to put an end to the destructive bottom trawling and dredging and all the rest of it that shouldn’t be allowed there anyway. These are meant to be *protected* areas. What is our government even doing? theguardian.com/environment/…

1910, Cradley Heath. Around 800 women chainmakers were paid next to nothing for brutal forge work. Mary Macarthur, aged just 30, organised them into a union and led a ten-week strike. Their salary was doubled. Ordinary women organised and changed what a day’s work was worth.

Danes Moss is one of the UK’s rarest habitats - a lowland raised bog. Cheshire East Council planned to build 950 homes and a link road on it - until locals fought back. 24,000 signatures. Years of protests. The fight for the bog goes on, but this was a win for #SaveDanesMoss

The New Yorker, is now interested to study the Brazilian working class. They look at André Janones and "Lula’s Army" and call it a "tech-savvy" miracle that reversed the far-right surge. But they are missing the profound civilizational shift that just took place. Let us look at the material reality of those three weeks between the first and second rounds. For years, the empire and the domestic oligarchs treated the internet as their private property. They used Silicon Valley algorithms, dark money, and decentralized right-wing troll farms to isolate, exhaust, and manipulate the public. When Flávio Bolsonaro took the lead in the first round, the left didn't just buy better ads. André Janones digitized the physical solidarity of the streets. He organized millions of ordinary Brazilians into "Lula’s Army," synchronizing their messaging to manually overpower the algorithm. The strategy was so devastatingly effective that the Global North is now begging the Global South for the blueprint. Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has requested Janones’s help, and in France, activists are studying "Janonisme" to fight the far-right. Why is the institutional media in New York and Paris suddenly looking to a Brazilian politician to learn how to survive the digital age? Because for a decade, the empire believed the working class was too atomized and too exhausted to fight back online. They thought the digital realm was permanently locked behind algorithms controlled by right-wing billionaires. But Brazil proved a beautiful, undeniable truth: when ordinary people—the nurses, the bus drivers, the students—synchronize their dignity, no algorithm can contain them. The left didn't just "hack" a social media platform; they broke the empire's digital enclosure. The Global North spent billions building a digital cage for the world. But the Brazilian working class just figured out how to pick the lock, and now the rest of the world is asking them for the key.

Plants feed the world while animal farming destroys it. Livestock uses about 80% of the world’s farmland but provides only 17% of our calories and just over a third of our protein. Pathetic. Imagine what we could do with even a fraction of that land back.

Port Townsend is one of the only towns in the USA with an intact Victorian seaport downtown, listed on the National Historic Register. The council decided a Starbucks facade wasn’t part of that inheritance and zoned formula businesses out. More towns should do this.

Seventy years ago today, Israel invaded Egypt under the secret Protocol of Sèvres, a plan agreed with Britain and France to seize the Suez Canal and topple Nasser. Egyptian resistance and US financial pressure sank it, and with it Britain's independent imperial role.

Atlantic salmon are breeding in the River Don for the first time in over 200 years. A wild-born parr was found in Sheffield, the first proof of spawning since pollution and weirs wiped them out. 25+ years of fish passes made it possible.

🇷🇸 "This is not a revolution. This is an exorcism," said Serbian actor and environmental organizer Bojana Novaković, describing the student-led movement that ousted Aleksandar Vučić after 14 years in power. Speaking with human rights lawyer Steven Donziger, Novaković explained how the students deliberately refused to have a leader. For years they gave interviews without last names, and no one spoke for the movement more than twice, so it "had no face." The Student List, which won about 52% of the vote in the parliamentary elections, is made up of people who have never held office: teachers, doctors, actors, playwrights and farmers, including a leader of the fight against Rio Tinto's lithium mine. Vučić ally Ana Brnabić, now acting president, still has the power to nominate the prime minister for parliament's approval, and Novaković said she could stall until a presidential election in December. The students' first task, Novaković said, is cleaning up the police, judiciary and government and prosecuting those behind decades of corruption - “organized crime,” according to Novaković. In Serbia, parties can't take money from donors, Novaković noted, but in the US, corruption is "completely legalized." Until that changes, she said, "I just don't see how you guys ever have free elections." 🎥 Steven Donziger (Instagram). Full conversation linked below. @SDonziger | @bojnovak
