sigh. there's a big difference between people saving your fics and people uploading them as their own. this whole discussion was about the first one. the second option is wrong and something we all agreed already on. seriously... some of you just want to be mad about anything
when i was 14/15 i wrote a long as hell fic and it got a lot of attention. at 22 y/o i reread it and was embarrassed of it (bad grammar, plot holes, etc.), so i DELETED IT and rewrote it all; same story, different approach.
a girl who read the older version told me the next:
i don't know if she still has my fic, but i genuinely don't mind. i certainly don't have it anymore and that's fine with me. it meant something to her (also) 15 y/o self and as a writer that's what matters to me
as a writer of both original stuff and fanfiction, please LEARN how the law actually works. support exactly what? your right to gatekeep the intellectual property of someone else?
give me a break

ive written fanfiction for 15 years now and i dont understand how we're at a point where people are so obsessed with engagement metrics that people actively circulating and enjoying your work is a bad thing.

The mom was absolutely right. This doesn't seem like a big deal at first but the expectation to accept "nice" disssapointment like this are how people slowly ignore their own desires, accept less, and be resentful of those who ask for more. You don't have to accept stuff from
