Never forgive and never forget that the Democratic Party is responsible for the genocide in Gaza, as Refaat Alareer reminded us before Israel killed him.

This is an incredibly significant mobilisation across 110 ports in 22 countries. Organisers estimate 52,000 containers will remain idle, holding $2.8 billion worth of cargo. The largest coordinated port action ever held, grinding the global arms trade to a halt.

She was found hanging from a tree branch. Two weeks old. The 'israeli' bomb murdered her entire family and flung her into a tree. No one survived to claim her. No one knew her name. Her nurse adopter her. Named her Malak (angel). She's now 3 years old.
This too is resistance.
In a story that encapsulates the pain of tragedy and the hope of life.. A baby girl was found all alone, hanging from a tree branch following the Al-Sabra neighborhood massacre in Gaza City on November 19, 2023, which claimed the lives of nearly 300 people while others remained missing.
She arrived at Al-Shifa Medical Complex as an infant, barely two weeks old. With no one to claim her, she remained unidentified for a full month until nurse Amal Ismail adopted her, naming her “Malak” and choosing October 29 as her official birthday.
Malak turns three surrounded by the love of Amal, who raised her as her own child, while hope endures that her relatives will one day recognize her so she can reclaim her roots and identity.

This is the work of Andreas Malm, Swedish writer whom Keir Starmer's govt...sorry...Andy Burnham's govt, has just banned from entering Britain. The best way to respond to state censorship is to share the voices they are trying to slience.
Replying to @VersoBooks
Read Malm's initial essay on how genocide in Gaza has ushered in a new phase in a long history of colonization and extraction that reaches back to the nineteenth century.

This story is bigger than a book simply being cancelled.
Penguin Random House pulled Alana Hadid and Jenan Matari’s book about the Palestinian experience after clashing with them over how to tell Palestine’s story.
Apparently, even a children’s book about Palestine needs a disclaimer making sure everyone knows October 7 was illegal, while the Nakba, occupation and decades of dispossession are up for editorial debate.
Alana and Jenin eventually walked away rather than publish a version they couldn’t stand behind.
Imagine having to fight a publisher just to tell your own people’s story.
Thankfully, Palestinian-owned Interlink Books will publish it in 2027.

This weekends column on a Mayo word, a Mayo writer, and the limits of symbolic solidarity. "The question is not whether individual Israelis should be able to read Sally Rooney. It is whether any cultural transaction that gives oxygen to the appearance of normality is morally defensible while the state continues to annihilate Palestinian life."

every time an author disappoints me when it comes to speaking up about the genocide in Gaza & not normalizing the israeli occupation of Palestine i remind myself sally rooney exists & having a conscience as a well known best selling author isn't impossible

At a conference in Ireland in support of the Palestinian-led BDS movement, author Sally Rooney spoke out against the complicity of the EU and the Irish government in Israel’s genocide against Palestinians in Gaza — and urged people of conscience to take strategic, moral and collective action.

Really loved this piece's candid take on class divisions among writers and, more specifically, how they shape one's literary legitimacy. There is the survival work of the working class, and the inherited capital that finances the lives of the upper class. thebaffler.com/odds-and-ends…

most of the books were found in the rubbles, he took them and cleaned them. he built the first library in Gaza since the genocide and organized all the books he found in the shelves. he also installed a projector in the library to make learning easier- this is beyond beautiful 😭
