If your school’s behaviour management policy requires you to a) Be a child psychologist b) Stop everything to focus constantly on one child out of thirty c) Be telepathically intuitive and magically persuasive d) Accept rude or unsafe behaviour e) Stop and think hard about the exact, complex next step… Then it’s not a behaviour policy, but a misbehaviour policy, because it creates an environment where misbehaviour is more likely. It’s also a quit-switch for staff who are human beings, not sorcerers.

A patient sent me a message the other day that perfectly captures what’s wrong with our approach to health. He walked into work to find a large World Mental Health Day display. Green ribbons. Mental health awareness signs. And about 50 boxes of donuts being handed out to employees. The irony. We’re raising awareness about mental health while handing out sugar-loaded, ultra-processed food to a workforce where many are likely struggling with obesity, insulin resistance, diabetes, and possibly anxiety or depression. The brain is a metabolic organ. Insulin resistance, chronic inflammation, and poor metabolic health are closely connected to mental health. Yet we continue to treat mental and metabolic health as though they’re completely separate. I’m all for raising awareness about mental health. And no, one donut isn’t the cause of poor mental health. But how about we start raising awareness about the metabolic health of the brain, too? Mental health matters. Metabolic health matters. They’re connected.

The doctor says something important about your health. You nod. You're still chewing on it when they hand you the pamphlets. The only thing you walk way with is a dazed look and an appointment card. Sound familiar? #PatientExperience #HealthLiteracy

Modern medicine, step by step: High blood pressure? Here’s a pill. Still high? Here’s two more. Gaining weight? Let’s add a shot. Cholesterol’s up? Statin time. Now you’ve got diabetes? More pills and shots. Gout too? Add another. Finally got heart disease? Let’s blame the cholesterol. Congrats. You’re now on 8-10 medications… And not a single one reversed the underlying problem. This is what they call “managing chronic disease.” Here’s what I call it: A never-ending cycle of prescriptions that ignores the root cause. What I do instead: ✅ Real whole food. ✅ More muscle. ✅ Less visceral fat. ✅ Better metabolic health. ✅ Fewer meds. That’s the goal.

In the past decade, SSRI prescriptions for teenagers have increased by 40%. For children under 12, the rate has doubled. Yet during this same period, youth mental health has dramatically worsened. How did we reach a point where chemically altering developing brains became our default response to adolescent struggles?

It's all over tech-adjacent Twitter. "Kids can learn 2x ... 5x ... 10x! ... faster than in regular schools." My question, always, is "... learn WHAT?"

Jiaju Shen slaps this one! 🔥 The instrument is a pipa, a traditional Chinese lute usually played with delicate fingerwork, but here it’s pushed into slap technique. I think it is the first time I have seen it played like this and can't help but love it.

At the dedication of the Statue of Liberty a speech was made. President Cleveland then stepped forward and delivered his own address. His closing words were a clear statement of inclusion and warning: “There is room in America and brotherhood for all who will support our institutions and aid in our development. But those who come to disturb our peace and dethrone our laws are aliens and enemies forever.”

In grad school, we debated whether a therapist can rehabilitate a pedophile. I was the ONLY person in the class who said I didn’t believe they could. Nearly everyone argued with me. I’d worked in law enforcement for years, not as an officer, but editing cases for public access. I knew MANY of these cases in disturbing detail. It made me question how highly we’ve elevated therapy if we genuinely believe that talking about something deeply ingrained in a person’s psyche can somehow cure it. Understanding the origin of a pathology doesn’t necessarily remove it. And I think we’ve become dangerously comfortable confusing insight with transformation. I see the same thing in the empathy extended toward Lindsay Clancy. I have zero compassion for her. Whatever was happening psychologically, three children died. Therapy can help people manage themselves. It can create insight. It can reduce risk. It can bring people together. But believing that every darkness in the human psyche can be talked away is not compassion. It’s naïveté.

Role-play was once most closely associated with sales training: practice the pitch, handle the objection and prepare for the customer conversation. Online role-play has expanded the possibilities. Today, people can privately practise everything from difficult feedback and patient conversations to networking, small talk, hiring interviews and language learning. They can try different approaches, receive feedback and repeat the experience—without the pressure or logistics of finding a practice partner. What would you use role-plays to practice? #RolePlay #OnlineLearning #LearningAndDevelopment #WorkplaceLearning

As a GED instructor, I agree. There seems to be a disconnect between many of my students' skills (especially in math) compared to their transcripts/report cards. At least when they earn their GED, I feel confident they have the skills foundation of a high school graduate
