Ok this deserved its own post. Last night Phish closed set 1 with Squirming Coil which typically ends with a long piano solo by Page as the rest of the band drifts off the stage. Boardwalk Hall is home to the largest, loudest pipe organ ever built. Built in 1929-1932, it consists of 33,112 pipes, and has been gradually being restored since the 1990’s at a cost of over $100 million, which Phish has apparently helped with a bit. So last night Page got up instead of the band and walked over and played the organ for the outro of Coil. The first time it’s ever been used as part of a live show. It was an incredible moment, we were crying, Page was crying, top 5 Phish moment for me. How does this band, after 30+ years and 100’s of show continue to amaze me? Best. Band. Ever.
On his first day in office, @NYCMayor @ZohranKMamdani appointed Cea Weaver, a tenant activist and one of his campaign advisers, to lead the city's Office to Protect Tenants.
Reason spoke with Weaver in 2021 and you won't believe what she had to say.

This week in 1967, Rock Skully, Danny Rifkin, and members of the Grateful Dead hosted a press conference to address the raid on their 710 Ashbury residence on October 2. Pigpen, Bobby, Rock, Danny, along with a few others who happened to be home when the cops busted in, were jailed for about six hours and released on $500 bail. Opening the conference, Danny remarked “Behind all the myths is the reality. The Grateful Dead are people engaged in constructive, creative effort in the musical field, and this house is where we work as well as our residence. Because the police fear and misinterpret us, our effort is now interrupted as we deal with the consequences of a harassing arrest."

The reality is that America is being pulled to extremes from both sides
The center is still strong, but it’s being confused by the extremes
The center needs to be louder

Major breakthrough by @BoringCompany!
Big tunneling milestone!
For the first time, TBC has continuously mined in a Zero-People-in-Tunnel (ZPIT) configuration. There is nobody in the machine (besides the videographer), which is simultaneously advancing forward and erecting a ring (i.e. building the tunnel). Each full ring weighs ~24,000 pounds.
In the same way that full and rapid reusability is the holy grail for rockets, ZPIT continuous mining is the holy grail for Boring Machines. This is the safest, fastest, and least expensive architecture to build tunnels.

Phish is the only fan vote winner not in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
An all-time snub. Few bands are have been as successful and culturally relevant for so long.
It's always been political; you know it, I know it, the critics know it.
It'll happen one day, we are everywhere.

“Tonight at midnight, America puts an end to three decades of deficits and launches a new era of balanced budgets and surpluses. While the numbers will not be official until the end of the month, we expect the 1998 surplus to be about $70 billion.”

as the great trainer Angelo Dundee said of his boxer Ali, you had to make Ali think that whatever you wanted him to do he'd thought of himself; otherwise, he wouldn't do it. but a great trainer is also a great psychologist.
so too with Biden: if only he would decide of his own volition to step aside & anoint an open convention to choose another candidate, what an upsurge of energy & hope in the country; some drama, even theater; an anticipatory mood of hope for good news for a change, not bad. it's a ritual cleansing/renewal when a new generation steps forward & this is far overdue.

Fifty-nine years ago today, Jerry, Bobby, Bill, and Pigpen took to the stage together at Magoo’s Pizza Parlor in Menlo Park, California to debut their new outfit as the Warlocks, marking the start of an unforgettable, enchanting, and wonderfully strange trip.
Phil would join in on bass, in lieu of Dana Morgan Jr., later that year.

NEW: Pro-Palestine protester has no clue why she is protesting and then asks a friend why they are protesting who also has no clue.
Remarkable.
Reporter: "Why are you protesting?"
Protester: "Demanding that NYU stops! I honestly don't know what NYU is doing... Do you know what NYU is doing?"
Protester 2: "I wish I was more educated!"
This pretty much sums up most protests.
