Perhaps many are ignorant of the fact that the Royal Navy spent many years and much money and blood fighting the slave trade. A story ignored by @BBCWorld & @guardian. Depicted here are HMS Brisk and Emanuela. Capture of slave ship, also known as Manuela.

🇮🇱 Another incredible Israeli invention that changed modern medicine! Imagine swallowing a tiny camera, no bigger than a vitamin, that travels through your digestive system taking thousands of pictures, allowing doctors to see things they previously struggled to diagnose. Sounds like science fiction, doesn’t it? Well, it’s called the PillCam, and it was pioneered by Israeli engineer Gavriel Iddan. The idea began taking shape in 1981 after Iddan met Israeli gastroenterologist Dr. Eitan Scapa, who explained just how difficult it was for physicians to examine the small intestine. Iddan believed there had to be a better way. After years of research and collaboration, Israeli company Given Imaging brought that vision to life. In 2001, the FDA cleared the PillCam, a tiny wireless camera measuring just 26 millimeters long! Patients could simply swallow it, and as it traveled naturally through their digestive tract, it transmitted images that helped physicians detect internal bleeding, inflammation, tumors, and other abnormalities. Think about that for a moment. Something small enough to swallow helped revolutionize gastrointestinal medicine and improve diagnostic care for patients around the world. This is one of the things I love about Israel. A tiny nation with an extraordinary ability to turn brilliant ideas into innovations that benefit humanity.

Today, I was delighted to join @BBCWomansHour to discuss the review into antisemitism in schools and colleges in England, led by former Ofsted Chief Inspector Sir David Bell. This was not a discussion about Israeli politics (although I firmly believe that schools should be places where fair and informed debate about any government is encouraged). Rather, I spoke as a parent about Sir David’s recommendations for addressing the challenges Jewish children face, and the importance of building greater understanding to tackle antisemitism in our schools. And yet since , this morning, the abusive responses on various platforms following what was a thoughtful, considered discussion, expertly chaired by @BBCNuala, has been shocking. And deeply depressing. Jews are not objects of pity. We simply want to live peacefully, as part of the wider community. The last thing we want is to be singled out. But this review was necessary because Jewish children have become targets of hatred. Perhaps this is fuelled by events unfolding thousands of miles away. Or perhaps those events are being used to legitimise antisemitism that might otherwise remain unspoken. Either way, if we are to live together with decency, respect and understanding, we must confront Jew hatred head-on. We must educate children and young people about antisemitism and the dangers of all forms of racism. But here’s the irony: the toxic responses I’ve received came from adults not children. And perhaps that’s the most depressing thing of all. If this hatred is being passed down by older generations, what hope is there for our children? And I mean all our children- whatever star they were born under. #antisemitism

🛑Israeli actress is taking Francesca Albanese to court. Israeli actress and model Sarai Givaty has filed a NIS 500,000 defamation lawsuit against Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on the Palestinian territories. According to the lawsuit, Albanese shared a 23-second clip from a 2025 interview, presented without its full context, and compared Givaty’s remarks to arguments used by Nazi officials to justify the murder of children during the Holocaust. Givaty says she never called for children to be killed. She was discussing the dangers of extremism and the radicalization of children. Albanese’s post reportedly reached more than two million views. Givaty says she subsequently received death threats and suffered damage to her reputation and career. Think about that. A UN official used her international platform to make a devastating comparison involving an Israeli woman, without presenting the full context of her remarks. Givaty is now fighting back in court. Holding a UN position does not place anyone above accountability. Accusations this serious demand evidence, context, and responsibility. Source: N12 :Yael Yafeh Photo: Heli Friedman , N12

🚨 ARE THE MEDIATORS MORE AFRAID OF WAR, OR OF ADMITTING THE TALKS HAVE FAILED? For months, mediators have shuttled proposals back and forth between the U.S. and Iran. No breakthrough. No nuclear deal. No real win. Now, with the risk of another war rising, they’re reportedly scrambling to salvage the process, even floating access to billions in frozen Iranian funds in return for nuclear concessions. At what point does diplomacy stop preventing war, and simply postpone it?

Did you know that in 1190 the non Jews of York had a pogrom started by the clergy because of the amount of money owed and the Jews escaped to Clifford’s tower where a mob encircled it and they were told to convert or die. Instead the majority committed suicide. The two that went out to convert were killed by the mob. After all the Jews were killed the clergy took the debtors records and burned them in the cathedral thus cancelling their debt. They also robbed their victims homes.
Did you know England expelled its entire Jewish population in 1290? For nearly 200 years, Jews had lived in England, building communities, raising families, practicing Judaism and contributing to the economy. But by 1275, Jewish children as young as seven were required to wear identifying badges. Jews faced restrictions on where they could live, couldn’t join trade guilds and were prohibited from owning farmland. Then, on July 18, 1290, King Edward I ordered every Jew out of England. Approximately 3,000 Jews were forced to leave. Their homes were largely confiscated by the Crown. Jews weren’t permitted to openly reestablish a community in England until 1656, more than 360 years later. Imagine being told that the country your parents, grandparents and great-grandparents called home was no longer yours. Yet through centuries of exile, persecution and displacement, Jewish communities continued preserving their faith, traditions and identity. The diaspora scattered us across the world. It never erased who we were. ✡️

Jean Hatchet @JeanHatchet The Palestine flag will fly above Sheffield Town Hall on 29th November in “solidarity”. An Israeli flag did not fly on 7th October. Fran Belbin the @UKLabour @SheffLabour council leader is committed to this divisive act she says. Belbin has meanwhile declared she will not continue a coalition with Sheffield Green Party over their anti-Semitic motion. The hypocrisy of Belbin is not hidden. Jews should not have to tolerate such an open display of biased political support by Sheffield councillors. This divisive flag must not fly.

Antisemitism in schools meant we had to change our daughter's school midway through year 5, then sell up and move areas to be able to send her to a Jewish secondary school - something we never envisaged as a secular family. It's a real issue and I'm glad it's being tackled.

🚨 ISRAEL IS BECOMING A DEFENSE-TECH SUPERPOWER Global defense-tech investment hit a record $40.8 BILLION in just six months — more than the entire annual GDP of Iceland. And Israel is rapidly emerging as one of the industry’s most important hubs. Israel now has roughly 350 active defense-tech companies, up from around 150 just 18 months ago. About one-third were founded after October 7, while 100+ Israeli companies have already had their technology adopted directly by the IDF. Defense, space and quantum technologies now account for 11.6% of Israeli tech funding — a dramatic rise from less than 2% just five years ago. The advantage is obvious: Israeli founders are often building solutions to problems they have personally encountered on the battlefield, giving their technologies something investors increasingly value — real-world validation under combat conditions. Israel is no longer just the Start-Up Nation. It is increasingly becoming the Defense-Tech Nation. (Globes)

You have betrayed Israel. That was the verdict that diplomat @Ameer_Kotecha often heard from Israeli taxi drivers when they discovered he worked at the embassy. As head of Palestinian affairs in Tel Aviv, he was tasked with defending policies he believed were making matters worse. Now he has resigned, and his account on this week’s episode of The Brink is devastating. Recognition of a "State of Palestine" handed out freely, for no discernible gain. Sanctions that, he argues, have damaged Britain’s ability both to help Palestinians and keep our own people prosperous and safe. A vital intelligence relationship put at risk. And a Foreign Office where progressive campaigns and internal identity initiatives have displaced the national interest. Kotecha is measured, fair to former colleagues and unsparing about the politicians who let them down. That makes his testimony all the more powerful. My latest post asks how Britain came to confuse feeling virtuous with doing good — and what that confusion is costing us. Link in first reply.

The parents were offered £50 total if they had one or more children killed in the disaster. One month’s salary for their loss. No one was ever prosecuted. The worldwide public raised money for the community and the charity board decided to pay out depending on whether they were ‘close’ to their lost kids. As if all of that wasn’t enough the Government then made the community use the money raised by the world to clear the remaining dangerous tips! A traumatised community shafted at every turn. It took a Government 30 YEARS later to recognise the travesty and to give the money back to the community.
National Coal Board negligence was responsible for the deaths of 144 people including 116 children in Aberfan. An unbearable, avoidable disaster. A devastated & grieving community repeatedly betrayed. NCB were never prosecuted #Aberfan60 #NeverForgetNeverForgive #NoJusticeNoPeace

I am not Jewish. But I am a proud Israeli citizen. I live in Tel Aviv. Despite the world having extremely opinionated views about the country I live in, few people I have come across on X (that don’t live here) know little of substance about Israel apart from their warped sense of history and reality. This is the first post of a series I will write entitled Everything You Think You Know About Israel is (Probably) Wrong. The points are not in any particular order. Spread the word. Most Israelis (just over 50%) are not white. The devastating impact on European Jews of the Holocaust meant that the newly formed Israel in 1948 was largely populated by Jews fleeing persecution in Muslim-ruled countries predominantly in the Middle East and North Africa. These are known as Mizrahi Jews and when the State of Israel was formed they made up 80% of the Jewish population living here. Jews have had a continuous presence in the land of Israel since around 1208 BCE, that’s 3,200 years — long before the creation of the state of Israel in 1948. The Muslim faith, in contrast, dates back 1,400 years (610 CE). Yes, when they lost majority rule in the 7th-century Muslim conquest they were not in the majority for centuries, but still lived in their ancestral homeland. Arab terrorism against Jews existed before 1948. In 1929, for example, 67 Jews were killed in the Hebron massacre, attacked and slaughtered by the Arabs they lived and worked beside. My wife’s great-grandfather Ben-Zion Gershon (who was a local doctor that often treated the Arab community without accepting payment) was tortured, had both his eyes gouged out and was then murdered. This was after his daughter Esther was raped in front of him, and his wife Zahava had both arms chopped off and was left to die. This was just one of many similar massacres inflicted on Jews that day. I will continue this series over the coming days.
