It's easy to understand when there are moments when this is hardest. Scientific research on history has shown that large genocidal empires, the seeds of civilization, form where there are large cultural gaps that make it almost impossible for people to understand each other.
The first step is to understand your enemies. Using mercy is much harder, and not always possible. Strive for it, even if it can't always be done in all situations.

This is an atomic-resolution image of a single hexabenzocoronene molecule (a ~1.4 nm nanographene) captured by IBM using non-contact atomic force microscopy with a CO-functionalized tip. The bright lines show individual carbon-carbon bonds and atoms. Higher-order bonds appear brighter and slightly shorter. The image is a force map, taken in ultrahigh vacuum at ~5 K. Jay Stratton alleges that fabricated UAP accounts have reached congressional testimony, and that some people presenting themselves as whistleblowers are helping undermine credible witnesses. In Out of the Shadows, the former director of the Pentagon’s UAP Task Force describes supposed whistleblowers gaining influence through podcasts and social media, sometimes encouraged by people he alleges are acting on behalf of the legacy program. “These planted phonies undermine the impact of the real deal whistleblowers and confuse the public.” The damage he describes extends well beyond an individual making an unreliable claim. Sensational stories attract attention, their storytellers become recognized authorities, and an audience eager for answers helps amplify them. When those accounts eventually unravel, the public may dismiss the entire subject, including testimony and evidence that had nothing to do with the discredited story. In Stratton’s telling, that broader loss of credibility is sometimes the intended outcome. He describes different motivations among the people involved. Some pursue attention or financial gain. Others believe they are advancing Disclosure, then become so invested in their public claims that admitting they were wrong becomes increasingly difficult. Alongside this, he explicitly acknowledges credible whistleblowers doing significant work, often privately with Congress. His allegation that false information has entered congressional testimony deserves particular attention. The passage does not identify specific witnesses, hearings, or statements. It says that fabricated material has reached testimony, which leaves open questions about who originated it and how it was presented. For anyone immediately thinking of David Grusch, the original post points to Stratton’s favorable treatment of him elsewhere in the book and his selection for Stratton’s team. This excerpt itself names no targets. What concerns me most is the cost to people coming forward in good faith. If Stratton’s account is accurate, their credibility can be damaged by stories they never told, endorsed, or had any involvement with. That makes clarification essential. Which claims does he believe are false? What led him to that conclusion? What can he share that would help Congress and the public examine the allegation? People who have taken real risks to provide information deserve a fair hearing. If their testimony is being undermined deliberately, we need enough detail to understand how, and to prevent unsupported accusations from creating further confusion. #ufos #uap

Where on Mars could the chemistry of life have started? Billions of years ago, parts of Mars may have been showered by a very special kind of rain—one laced with formaldehyde, a simple but potent molecule that can kick-start the building blocks of life. Scientists have now produced the first global map of the places most likely to have received that chemical rain. These ancient “formaldehyde zones” are now high-priority targets for future missions hunting for traces of organic chemistry and for choosing the best landing sites. How a toxic-sounding molecule became a building block Formaldehyde (H₂CO) is a reactive organic molecule. In water, it can help assemble sugars, amino acids, and other compounds that are stepping stones toward more complex biochemistry. On early Earth, similar atmospheric chemistry may have helped seed the planet with prebiotic materials. The new study asks whether the same process could have operated on Mars. Led by astrobiologist Shungo Koyama (Institute of Science Tokyo and Tohoku University), with collaborators from the University of Tokyo, the University of Washington, and the Royal Belgian Institute for Space Aeronomy, the team modeled Mars during the late Noachian and early Hesperian periods—roughly 3.5–4 billion years ago. They accounted for temperature, water vapor, atmospheric pressure, and intense ultraviolet radiation from the young Sun. The key insight: ultraviolet light split water vapor in the atmosphere, releasing highly reactive hydrogen. That hydrogen then drove the formation of formaldehyde aloft. Once formed, the molecule was washed out of the sky in rain and delivered to the surface—exactly the kind of aqueous environment where further organic synthesis could begin. A map of chemical opportunity The resulting map highlights regions where the combination of atmospheric conditions and rainfall made formaldehyde delivery most efficient. These are not necessarily the wettest places, but the places where the chemistry was most favorable. In other words, the map points to the zones where Mars may have had the highest chance of cooking up the raw ingredients for life. The work, published in The Planetary Science Journal, gives planetary scientists a concrete way to prioritize where to look next. Instead of searching the entire planet for ancient organic traces, future rovers and sample-return missions can focus on the locations that once sat under a formaldehyde-rich rain. In short: Mars may once have received a gentle, planet-wide drizzle of prebiotic chemistry. Now we know where that drizzle was most likely to fall.

The Chinese government is terrorizing its overseas critics, even arranging automobile accidents to silence them. In this case an individual was tracked with a GPS on his scooter and then rammed by a car. The five men involved were locals, including one private investigator, hired by a Chinese national. These attacks are a warning to the west. The CCP is expanding its surveillance state into democracies using technology and its connections with organized crime.

So a new study suggests based on fossil hyoid that pachycephalosaurs had large muscular tongues to manipulate food. But I suggest it was used to really polish and shine that bald dome so it could blind attacking tyrannosaurs. I just solved pachycephalosaurs, guys!

There's no doubt climate stresses are adding stress to various aspects of our lives, especially in certain places, whether it be economic, health, anger, anxiety, etc... As with spikes in migration it is typically a mix of many factors, and unfortunately it is very hard to parse out how much each contributes individually. For example: We never go to the grocery store and wonder if climate stresses are partially to blame for why certain goods have spiked in price. We should. Because in many cases it is reality.
The riots in France have multiple complex economic and social causes, but I have to wonder whether the scorching hot summer contributed some to the discontent. In a country where most homes and businesses lack air conditioning, this last summer would have been insufferable.
