Status update: mom!
I’ve never been so madly in love as I am with my little guy.
I am beyond grateful to @ClevelandClinic for my overwhelmingly positive, hypnobirthing based labor and delivery experience.
I am beyond grateful to my #pickleball friends; the baby shower they threw for me was a day I will never forget.

I am a CAR T scientist on break from my work due to my autoimmune disease. I will consider taking a T cell therapy for my disease if and when the safety profile matches that of my current treatment, or rituximab. #Pemphigusvulgaris is currently incurable. #CARTcells
CAR-T therapy, already approved for certain blood cancers, is generating excitement in early tests against autoimmune diseases. Designed to wipe out a whole class of immune cells, the treatment holds promise but comes with potentially serious risks.

The rituximab only works for a little while before I have to be re-treated, but at least it hasn’t killed me. The infusions are a pain in the ass, but I’m grateful that I have access to the treatment. Pemphigus vulgaris used to be fatal, but now it’s just incurable.
I have a very unique perspective on the issue of #CARTcells for autoimmune diseases as both a CAR T cell scientist and an autoimmune patient. Please feel free to engage with me on this topic. I’m more than happy to discuss my point of view in further detail.

I played in Pickle in the Land today and came in 4th. We missed the bronze medal by 2 points. My @DUPRpb is the worst it has ever been despite the fact that I’ve medaled twice recently in the 3.5 - 4.0 division. The algorithm still makes no sense and is seriously flawed.
The sport really needs to get away from its reliance on @DUPRpb. No one can explain why people who aren’t as good as I am have much higher ratings and/or why my rating continues to go down as I improve in the sport. 😂
Most of my rating is from league games. I only have a few tournaments in my @DUPRpb, and the event that I won gold in wasn’t entered into DUPR at all. I played in leagues all throughout treatment for my autoimmune disease, and there were some days that I was quite sick.

I took on this role while I remain on medical leave from @SES_HQ due to health challenges related to my autoimmune disease, or pemphigus vulgaris. The Co-Chair role is easier for me to manage, and it has been a lot of fun thus far. I can’t wait for the #Declararion250 event!
Besides, the biomedical funding crisis for independent, female PIs isn’t being properly acknowledged — let alone fixed. I hope @NIH and @CDMRP implement positive changes, and I will continue to advocate for small businesses in this context. #girlsjustwannahaveresearchFUNding
