What we are trying to do: Build an engine that’s more powerful than UE5, easier to develop in than Unity, and is the most efficient effective way to build with AI acceleration.
The problem with having old systems and new systems side-by-side is the tendency to mix them, and then their interoperability becomes a giant tangle of blueprints and verse, actors and entities.
We thought that side-by-side was unavoidable, but AI assisted conversion is now clearly way more effective, and will produce a way more manageable UE6 project than a hybrid, while making it way easier for us to simplify and improve the engine.
We’ll be proving it out by converting Fortnite, the game with the largest base of blueprints in existence, to the new approach.

All-in on Verse and Scene Graph, with an AI-assisted workflow. This is the future of UE development and you can experience it today (in “Alpha”) with UEFN
At the keynote of Unreal Fest Tokyo 2026 (November 3–4, 2026, Tokyo), Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney announced significant changes for Unreal Engine 6 (UE6):
Blueprints (BP) and Actors will be removed (not merely deprecated) in UE6.
This is a shift from the earlier plan announced at Unreal Fest Chicago / State of Unreal in June 2026, where they were expected to remain in early versions and later be deprecated.
The C++ Gameplay Framework will also be abolished. Game logic will fully migrate to Verse + Scene Graph.
C++ will continue to be used for core engine systems (rendering, physics, etc.), but not for the gameplay framework.
Reasons given: higher development productivity, better content portability/interoperability across games and ecosystems, and stronger compatibility with AI-assisted development.
Epic reported significant efficiency gains from internal Verse-based work.
Tim Sweeney acknowledged it as a “painful change” and apologized to developers attached to Blueprints. He noted that Epic itself is experiencing the same pain (e.g., migrating Fortnite to Verse without service interruption).
Migration support: AI-powered conversion tools are planned to help transition from Blueprints/C++ to Verse (exact form TBD).
Projects already in development on UE5 can continue on the UE5 branch (including UE5.9 and future 5.x releases).
UE6 Early Access remains targeted for the end of 2027.
The event also features 30+ sessions covering games (Sega, ACE COMBAT 8, etc.), film, architecture, automotive, digital twins, UEFN, MetaHuman, and deep dives into Verse/Scene Graph.
Bottom line: UE6 is moving to a Verse-centric programming model and will remove the traditional Actor / Blueprint / C++ Gameplay Framework.
So, What do you thinks about these changes?

This developer has been permanently banned and all of their islands/accounts have been removed.
When we ban a developer we remove their engagement payouts and redistribute any revenue generated back into the pool for all developers.

The thousands of death threats in these threads, carefully crafted so that X’s algorithm doesn’t ban them, demonstrate what’s going on here. These aren’t arguments to persuade or express contrary opinions, but just bullying and intimidation of opponents to silence them.

I think we should have even more labels.
Before I buy a game, I want to know where the game dev lands on abortion. And healthcare.
Every game dev should complete a six hour political questionnaire to ensure that I am not accidentally supporting the wrong tribe.

Cancel culture tried it again
-> Stalk Tim Sweeney’s entire history for dirt
-> Best they can find is one mildly edgy take
-> Try to cancel him over it anyway
Tim Sweeney did nothing and won.
Tim Sweeney is facing backlash after an old post resurfaced where the Epic Games CEO argued that studios going bankrupt “deserve the axe.”
Talking about Looking Glass shutting down Sweeney called it “an economically realistic day”
Sweeney also wrote that “a studio that goes bankrupt deserves to be shut down”, arguing that companies that fail financially shouldn’t necessarily be kept alive.
His conclusion is that “The dinosaurs die, but the way is cleared for cooler life forms to evolve.”

No company's perfect, but it's kinda criminal how Epic gets treated in the greater conversation of engines and distribution platforms.
They have done SO MUCH for gaming and distribution to keep others honest.
Epic Games was my favorite company before and I'm loving them even more after supporting Linux and embracing vibe coding their product.
Many don't know that Epic is one of the most supportive company to players and Devs.
Changed so many lifes through Fortnite Tournaments(I got paid myself so maybe I'm biased).
and as for Devs Unreal Engine is top tier, free and they charge the least for distribution

Much of the room wants it to be 2016 again, but it's not. Our job, as the provider of tools and technology to much of the industry, is to design for the present that is and the future that will soon be. Personally I'm optimisic about it and see it as empowering for creators.

Oh wow! Roblox expands into an engine for standalone games, while Unreal Engine 6 expands its feature set with a standards based interoperable content ecosystem. The winner of this competition: developers!
