Fibres are thought to emerge from a dense protein condensate ageing into a glassy state. It is now shown that protein fibres and glassy condensates may result from two competing ageing pathways.

Excited to share our new work in Nature Materials! 🧬⚙️ Can we genetically program how an active material moves?
We embed cell-free gene expression inside an active microtubule network, allowing DNA instructions to build its molecular machinery.

What could you learn about a collective system if you could resolve all of its energetic pathways?
We track energy flow as active spheres transition from disordered motion to collective order.
And the energetic state changes just as their motion. arxiv.org/abs/2609.31059

My first first-author work from my PhD is now on bioRxiv! We show that balanced RCC1 activity is essential for organizing the specialized spindle in early vertebrate embryos by promoting midplane accumulation of HURP, KIFC1, and dynein, supporting faithful chromosome segregation.
