Point! I never really thought about it. Unlike other social sciences (political science and sociology), economics didn't go that route. But then we have 'identifications'.
Relics of past struggles! So true
One more Churchill quote for the store (not sure about the stock market as an election indicator, though)
Is the Indian election turning? The stock markets, the benchmark indices, among other indicators, certainly suggest that it is turning. Is the I.N.D.I.A. bloc — not quite an alliance but a strategic political arrangement with built-in internal contradictions that has some of the attributes of an alliance in States where the constituents are not arrayed against each other — delivering significantly better than predicted by the opinion polls? This brings to mind Winston Churchill’s famous observation to a senior British general at the end of the Second World War: “There is only one thing worse than fighting with allies, and that is fighting without them!”

Today, 17 Sept (1743), is the birthday of one of the world’s great philosopher-mathematicians & a great human being, Marquis de Condorcet. He fought for equal rights for women & all races & contributed to our understanding of constitutional government & the mathematics of juries.
Beauty!

Econ theory. Extending Akerlof’s model of lemons it follows that goods bought from stores in the international departure lounge of airports are likely to fall extra short on quality. The stores know buyers will discover the quality only after reaching another country.

The cover of this week’s edition of @TheEconomist … and reflective of the spread in recent weeks of the unfavorable short- and longer-term #growth narrative for #China.
