This is great video about thinking through system failures and where to place the blame. Hint: the blame is always in the system and rarely with the individuals involved.

Great story on how @YipitData, a major financial data provider with over 15 PB of data, migrated from Hive to Unity Catalog to scale access management, decrease costs, and deliver data directly to customers via Delta Sharing.

Big update for us today.
And we are hiring for basically everything: yipitdata.com/careers (remote friendly)
We’re excited to announce today that we’ve raised up to $475 million in Series E funding from @OneCarlyle. Surpassing unicorn status and ushering in a new era of market research.

Our data warehouse has a lot of tables (>100k). We started using a free trial of @getcensus yesterday and it was slow because of the # of tables (not their fault, Glue API is slow). So Census deployed a new feature overnight to fix this. For us. A free trial user. (not for long)
I am really excited to see Next Chapter continue to grow to more companies. As I meet people through @UnderdogDevs I continue to be even more optimistic about program like this. It made me even happier to see the Wisconsin-based @AmFamNews becoming a partner.

We need to continue to create additional onramps for getting into tech and Next Chapter is an important piece of that puzzle. It is great to see a local (and large) company stepping up.

Good holiday haul. After I read some of these, maybe I’ll better understand what the hell everyone on this website is talking about :)
This is well worth the read, one of Kevin's best. Great points on talent arbitrage and strategy around visibility.
New essay up. The Mike Speiser Incubation Playbook
- Advantages of being interim CEO
- Betting all-in on secular transitions
- Optimizing only for incubations
- Local maximas of venture and function not form
- Breaking the wall of VC-company engagement

Good article on using Moto to test Lambda code. There is still too much mystery around serverless testing so good to see more articles like this!
Hi @spulec I wrote an article on testing Lambda functions and said some nice things about moto. Would love if you checked it out! medium.com/@psingman/how-i-w…
When you live in Wisconsin and see everyone tweeting about "Epic" and keep getting confused if they are talking Epic Games or Epic Systems because they are both in the news this week
Going to start showing up to all of my Zooms 59 seconds later than usual and no one can tell me I'm late.

The best thing about working on a half dozen blog posts at once is that you can tell yourself you are making progress on all of them, while not actually being forced to publish any of them 😂😭
Always say Thank You first.
When someone you trust gives you negative feedback, start by saying thank you. It is hard in the moment, but it is 100% worth it.
When someone opens up and goes through the pain of giving that feedback, you need to do everything in your power to not discourage that going forward. You need to cherish it and encourage it or the chance of getting that feedback again eventually goes to zero.
I'm not perfect at this, but I'm trying to get better. @vacanti is the best I have ever seen at it and I credit him with most of my progress and the realization of the value of this philosophy.
Please don't watch The Mandalorian or use Dove soap for the next couple of weeks. Thanks.
Our team keeps telling me that this isn't how it works, but better safe than sorry.

I've had so many friends and coworkers come to this country on visas (H-1B, H-4, J-1, and many more). Every single one of them has made this country better and stronger. I'm frustrated by those who fail to see this.
Inspired by @patrickc's list of people quickly accomplishing ambitious things together, I started compiling a list of impressive things accomplished by small teams. stevepulec.com/posts/small/
This is currently very business heavy. Please send more my way!
