Doubt: “If we don’t vote, the far-right will come to power, ban the ḥijāb, and demolish the masājid!” Answer: This is not how the democratic system works. The democratic system exists to maintain the status quo. Western countries have secular liberal constitutions and the majority of parties and members of parliament are secular liberal. This means that secular liberals have significant influence over the political system and can use that influence to prevent the rise of unwanted elements. When the far right is less popular, mainstream parties resort to a cordon sanitaire, which is basically when they boycott the far right and parties that don’t conform to the status quo by refusing to work with them or invite them to coalitions. When the far right becomes more popular, mainstream parties try to co-opt them by inviting them into coalitions, which gives them greater influence over government but requires compromises. The reasons for compromise are many. Joining a coalition means that you have to find common ground in order to work with other coalition members, which entails compromise. By being part of the government, far-right parties can no longer oppose the official ideology and policies of the government as much because it would compromise their own influence. Many far-right parties are mere protest parties, and suddenly becoming part of a government means that they have to make internal transformations in order to be successful at governance. This is why almost every single ruling government in the history of Western liberal democracies has conformed to the ideology of the status quo, with exceptions for extreme cases like Europe during the Great Depression. The idea that a far-right government will come to power and ban Muslims from following their religion is a scarecrow created by compromised “imams” in order to get Muslims to participate in a system that’s fundamentally based on shirk. And what is the alternative to the far-right that these “imams” want you to vote for? Far-left parties and candidates that would kidnap your children if you refuse to send them to be educated by an institution that drills the kufr of LGBT and other ideologies down their throats. This is actually what’s happening in multiple European countries now, unlike the scarecrow they’ve created.
