Early Islamic conquests, highlighted by the Battle of Yarmouk (636): the near ERADICATION OF CHRISIANITY:
The early 7th-century Arab/Muslim conquests (especially the decisive Battle of Yarmouk in 636) did result in the rapid loss of the Levant, Egypt, and later much of North Africa—core territories of the late antique Christian world that had been under Roman/Byzantine rule for centuries. Historians such as Thomas Madden and others have described this as the loss of a large portion (sometimes phrased as roughly two-thirds to three-quarters) of the older, wealthier Christian lands outside the core of Western Europe. The later Crusades, Ottoman/Turkish expansions, Tatar/Mongol raids and conquests in Eastern Europe, and 19th–20th-century European colonial rule in parts of the Muslim world form a recognizable historical sequence, though each phase had its own complex causes and was not solely a direct reaction to the previous one.
PART 1; Early Islamic conquests, highlighted by the Battle of Yarmouk (636):
This 14th-century manuscript illustration (from a Catalan manuscript of Hayton’s Flor des Estoires, Bibliothèque nationale de France) depicts the Battle of Yarmouk. Muslim forces (shown with a star-and-crescent banner) face Byzantine troops (anachronistically in later-style armor with a star banner). The battle was the decisive victory for the Rashidun Caliphate under commanders including Khalid ibn al-Walid over the Byzantine army, after which Byzantine control of Syria and the Levant collapsed. It opened the way for the subsequent fall of Jerusalem (638), Egypt, and other Christian-majority territories of the Eastern Mediterranean and North Africa.
PART 2; The Crusades:
Pope Urban II’s call at the Council of Clermont in 1095 is the conventional starting point of the First Crusade. This late-15th-century miniature by Jean Colombe (from Sébastien Mamerot’s Les Passages d’Outremer, Bibliothèque nationale de France, c. 1474) shows Urban II addressing the assembled clergy and nobility in a grand Gothic setting. The immediate triggers included Byzantine appeals for help against the Seljuk Turks (who had seized much of Anatolia after the Battle of Manzikert in 1071) and the desire to reclaim the Holy Land, which had been under Muslim rule since the 7th century.
PART 3; Renewed Muslim conquests by Turks and Tatars:
The Ottoman Turks’ conquest of Constantinople in 1453 ended the Byzantine Empire and marked a major phase of Turkish expansion into southeastern Europe. This 1903 painting by Fausto Zonaro (Mehmed II Conquering Constantinople) shows Sultan Mehmed II leading the Ottoman army, with the great cannon used to breach the walls, approaching the city. Parallel Tatar/Mongol (Golden Horde, Crimean Tatar) raids and conquests affected Russia, Poland, Hungary, and the Balkans for centuries after the 13th-century Mongol invasions.
PART 4; European colonization of the Muslim world:
From the late 18th century onward (beginning notably with Napoleon’s 1798 invasion of Egypt), European powers established direct or indirect control over large parts of North Africa, the Middle East, and other Muslim-majority regions. Horace Vernet’s monumental Capture of the Smalah of Abd el-Kader (1845, Château de Versailles) depicts the 1843 French capture of the mobile camp of the Algerian resistance leader Emir Abd el-Kader during the French conquest of Algeria (begun in 1830). Such works were often commissioned as official celebrations of colonial military success; Delacroix’s Women of Algiers in Their Apartment (1834) is a parallel example of the broader Orientalist visual culture that accompanied European presence in the region.

Check out this vicious, threatening response to a friendly get out the vote text. It proves we are up against crazed & dangerous people.
They tried to k!ll our President— several times.
They as$assinated Charlie.
They will resort to violence every chance they get.
Go out and vote like your life depends on it.
Vote for safe neighborhoods, and healthy families. Vote to end violence and vote for a stronger, better America.
Vote Republican up-and-down the ballot.

DC is trying to rebuild the brand, audience and critic trust. Outside of supergirl, they’re doing just that and succeeding. However, box office draw for DC is not what it once was because of movies like BVS, suicide squad, and Justice League. It will eventually get there.

We received an HSI memo from inside the administration revealing federal agents spent 8 months building a case on Ilhan "Omar" before ever knocking on her door.
The leaked document requests her complete, unredacted passport history, targets potential federal violations for false passport statements and false claims of U.S. citizenship, and explicitly raises the prospect of civil denaturalization!
That paper trail explains why two dozen federal agents walked out of her home with her phone, files, and her DNA, and why those grand jury subpoenas went out to her family.
Now, is she going to be convicted, stripped of her citizenship, and deported? Proving this in a courtroom is still a major hill to climb. But if federal law enforcement actually has the receipts to back this memo up... OHHHHH BOY.

I think James Gunn is quietly moving the goalposts on what he originally promised the DCU would be, and I'm starting to wonder if he's hoping people forgot what he said back in 2023.
When Gunn announced GODS AND MONSTERS, he promised that everything moving forward would be canon, connected, and consistent. He talked about building a "big, huge central story" comparable to Marvel, only more planned out from the beginning. There was an 8–10 year roadmap, interconnected characters, and an overarching narrative. That was the sales pitch. That was what audiences were told to invest in.
Fast-forward to October 2026, and now Gunn is explaining that the DCU is simply a universe where individual stories can exist without necessarily building toward something bigger. He wants people watching CLAYFACE because it's a good horror movie, not because it connects to another project down the road. And look, I understand that philosophy. Not everything needs to be homework. But that's a noticeably different emphasis from what he was selling three years ago.
And the timing is interesting. SUPERGIRL bombed, CLAYFACE is off to a decent but relatively modest start, several GODS AND MONSTERS projects remain in development limbo, and we still don't have an established DCU Batman. Is Gunn adjusting expectations because the original plan isn't coming together the way he envisioned? Or is this just an executive trying to manage audience expectations while the pieces slowly fall into place?
I'm not saying Gunn deliberately lied in 2023, but his words matter. Especially now that he's running a studio and not simply directing movies. You don't get to sell audiences on an interconnected, meticulously planned universe and then act surprised when they start asking what the hell everything is building toward.
Maybe the plan hasn't changed at all. But if that's the case, perhaps Gunn should explain what happened to that big central story he was so excited to promise everybody.
Because audiences remember what they were sold. And after nearly four years, I think they've earned a little more clarity.
