🚨Red List Update🚨
Day 5 of our 12 Days of BirdLife showcases our reassessment of almost 5,000 birds: an astounding 4,742 species for the 2024 update, or 42% of all the world’s birds.
Half of the world’s bird species have declining populations, and one in eight are threatened with extinction.❌
7 species had genuine downlists to lower threat categories meaning their condition has improved, such as the Okinawa Woodpecker from Critically Endangered to Endangered!⬇️
But 25 species had genuine uplists to higher threat categories, including 16 types of migratory shorebird, meaning their condition has worsened, their numbers have declined and they are at a higher risk of extinction. ⬆️📉🌊
