Proud of this girl and all her hard work in the classroom and on the soccer field. Signed her letter of intent to Doane University to play soccer. @DoaneWSoccer #proudDad#go tigers

I’m blown away that teachers still assess all students the same way on the same day. Is it not crystal clear that students learn at different rates? Why then are we sticking to a system that is SO flawed. And worse, most times students are never given an opportunity to recover.

In Ep 6 of our #GrowthOverGrades podcast, educator @AllisonETEC shares some wisdom, "Keep it weird." "Don't be afraid to laugh at yourself." 🤣 When it comes to teaching middle school, what advice would you share? 🤔 Listen to the full episode here: spacesedu.com/en/growth-over… 🚀
Or in 2 year algebra programs, often for more than 2 years, yet some how it’s a S issue…hmmmm
Teacher pondering: How often are the students we have on "intervention" watchlists only there because we refuse to change our practice? Happy Wednesday :)

Yes!!!
The way we're panicking to figure out how to "catch students up" is evidence that we haven't been trying to meet students where they're at all along. We think, "But they no longer fit into our timelines!" But, like, they never did. We were just treating fairy tales as truth.

Wonder if we're ready for the conversation that some people don't want math education to change, because if everyone can be good at it, then that must mean they aren't smarter or better than everyone else. 😶

YES to this whole thread!!
The push for minimum grading (ie. - giving 50% instead of 0 for missing work) often creates friction in a staff because it isn't approached correctly. It's a stop-gap solution for a bigger problem that's never truly addressed. A thread... 1/8

Working with an Alg1 T looking for project for Ss to demonstrate their understanding of applications of quadratics. Any help would be appreciated! #iteachmath #Algebra #MTBoS

When we build classrooms that are reliant on live lectures and fixed pacing, we build classrooms that are unresponsive to students’ unique needs. We become inflexible when students require personalized supports. We end up focusing more on control than the whole child.

In need of help...those with hybrid teaching experience, what are some class structures/routines you’ve found success with? My district is transitioning to fully open but giving families the choice to stay remote #hybridlearning #iteachmath #MTBoS

Compliance and engagement are not the same thing and should not be used interchangeably. That applies to students and adults.

Approaching the end of the 1st quartmester (sem in a quarter). Have Ts asking about grade recovery contracts, earn 1st sem credit by passing 2nd sem. Anyone have examples? #MTBoS #iteachmath

You're not grading assignments. You're collecting evidence to determine student progress and pointing them towards their next steps. Make the mental switch. It matters.

My districts plan has a huge shift for secondary, 3 classes instead of 6, each semester. Math Ts are struggling with how “going faster” is possible. Also having to shift to a blended model with F2F twice a week. In need of resources please #iteachmath

Let me add that I’m in a coaching role for secondary math Ts and we are meeting Wednesday afternoon to address concerns, find resources, and olan. Would love to have some examples to bring to the table.

Exactly! Ts did their best to transition and keep Ss engaged but it wasn’t online learning...it was crisis teaching and learning.
“Online learning doesn’t work for families!” We also didn’t do it right. We didn’t give it a fair chance. We did emergency learning not online learning.
