I have been holding my tongue about something that happened during the Ohio gubernatorial race. I refused to speak while the election was underway because I did not want my words mistaken for an attempt to influence anyone’s vote. But now that the election is over, I have something to say. For nearly twenty years, my ministry has taken me among the homeless, the abused, the exploited, and the forgotten. I have sat with victims of sexual violence and witnessed the lifelong wounds of childhood trauma. What Vivek Ramaswamy’s campaign did to Amy Acton was among the most morally repulsive things I have witnessed in American politics. They took a woman whose stepfather was indicted for raping her when she was twelve years old and featured her mother, from whom she had been estranged for nearly fifty years, in a political advertisement attacking her credibility. The advertisement challenged Acton’s account of her childhood without mentioning the sexual abuse allegations or the circumstances of that estrangement. When people expressed their horror, the campaign defended it. Imagine examining another person’s childhood suffering and fractured family relationships, then deciding those wounds might help win an election. Anyone who has worked with survivors of childhood sexual abuse understands the painful realities of denial, betrayal, shame, and estrangement. A child growing into a successful adult does not erase what happened. Nor does a parent’s denial make that suffering disappear. I find it equally disturbing that an elderly mother, whom Acton herself described as unwell, was brought into this spectacle. Whatever her own struggles or responsibility for the past, exploiting that fractured relationship was grotesque. To everyone who defended this, consider the message you sent to survivors. To the young woman whose family refuses to believe her. To the man who has carried the shame of childhood abuse for forty years. To the frightened child who has yet to tell anyone. What did you teach them about the value of their suffering? I am a priest. I believe in repentance, forgiveness, and redemption. But none of those things requires me to pretend that deliberate cruelty is anything less than a grave moral failure. Your political allegiance does not absolve you of moral responsibility. You do not get to set aside your conscience during an election and retrieve it afterward. If your loyalty requires you to defend the exploitation of a childhood sexual abuse survivor, your loyalty has become an idol. And if your conscience cannot recognize the wrong here, examine what political tribalism has done to it. This is not about Republicans or Democrats. We have a choice as a people: continue excusing cruelty from our preferred political camp, or summon the courage to condemn it wherever it appears. Amy Acton deserved better. Every survivor who watched this unfold deserved better. And God help us if we have reached the point where winning an election matters more than protecting the dignity of a wounded human being.

Immense planning and technical precision was required for this absolutely preposterous (but real) view: I captured my friend @BlackGryph0n transiting the sun during a skydive. This might be the first photo of it's kind in existence. See a video of this moment in the reply 👇

This is the only king to celebrate this weekend.
Happy Birthday, King Friday! King Friday Xlll celebrates his birthday every Friday the 13th. He was given his name and birthday to try to help break superstitions around the day and celebrate it instead.

I asked chatgpt's new image model to script and generate a series of comics starring itself as the main character. The results genuinely gave me chills. I'll post them all in a thread below.

Replying to @RouxBourbon
Yep, he broke into a machine already running, had the team do this in 2 days. Here is the actual timeline. 1. On Monday our client approved our 90% complete models for our solution to mount electronics in a highly dynamic aviation application. 2. Tuesday We completed SolidWorks and did conformance prints in house along with mating parts. 3. Tuesday 10PM after two tweaks we shipped files to all vendors (US and China) via DropBox 4. Wednesday 8AM quote from China. 5. Wednesday 9:30AM PO issued. 5. Wednesday PM quote from US vendor and PO issued. 6. Friday 6AM told parts will be in FedEx Saturday. 7. Tuesday early PM parts delivered and QA started. That’s how fast it goes with good vendors in China and the US. In this case both vendors got orders.

8 soldiers of Svoboda Battalion of the 4th National Guard Rubizh Brigade defended a strongpoint near the village of Spirne near Siversk for 67 days - from July 10 to September 16. For the last three weeks, they fought in complete encirclement and fought off the last enemy assault when Russian assaultmen stormed their position and pelted their dugout with grenades. The commander of the position was a 25-year-old platoon leader, Senior Lieutenant Vladyslav Stotskyi. Volunteer soldiers from Svoboda Battalion fought alongside Vladyslav. All of them had no military experience before 2022. On September 16, a Russian assault team attacked the strongpoint with two tanks, two MT-LBs, and an infantry fighting vehicle, from which an entire assault platoon disembarked. Svoboda Warriors repelled the attack and destroyed the entire enemy assault team. Military correspondent Yurii Butusov recorded this interview with Vladyslav a day after he left the strongpoint on the orders of the command and led 6 soldiers out, so he is full of emotions. The body of his brother-in-arms Oleksandr Khomiak, who died a brave death in close combat with the Russians, could not be taken out of the encirclement. I highly recommend to watch this interview. It shows the incredible efforts and sacrifices Ukrainian soldiers are making to defend every meter of their homeland. Everyone needs to know this.

We practiced with caskets that were stored outside our barracks building. To simulate the weight of honored remains, we’d toss several full sandbags into the belly of the casket and then, for hours, we’d go through our exact movements. Over and over and over. (thread)

White friends, especially white women who did not have an undergraduate sorority experience: In the coming months you’ll likely see a great deal of content about VP Harris’ sorority affiliation and the support from its members. We 🩷 it. Some info & tips for us: 🧵

(THREAD) It’s important that everyone RETWEET this thread. As some of you know, Elon Musk has been on a deranged tear trying to destroy one of the most reliable news sources in the world, REUTERS. The recent reports in this thread are the ones Musk doesn’t want *anyone* to share.
