🚨 A HARSH TRUTH: SPEED MATTERS. 🚨
If you’re not the fastest player on your club team or at least in the TOP 3 in speed, you need to seriously evaluate whether NCAA Division I Power 4 soccer is a realistic target.
⚽ The ACC. Big Ten. Big 12. SEC.
At that level, speed is a weapon. Coaches are looking for players who can cover ground, win races, recover defensively, attack space, and execute at a high tempo.
You might have great technical ability.
You might be the most skilled player on your team.
You might even be the best player on the field.
But if you cannot keep up with the speed of the game, your other qualities may not be enough.
Here’s what recruits and parents need to understand: being fast at your current level does not automatically mean you’re fast enough for the next one.
And if you’re consistently behind the play, losing foot races, or struggling to recover defensively, college coaches will notice.
Does this mean you can NEVER play Power 4 soccer if you aren’t in your team’s top three fastest players? No. Position, acceleration, game speed, soccer IQ, and technical quality all matter.
But if you’re targeting that level, you better have a realistic understanding of your athletic profile and a plan to improve it.
Stop chasing the name on the jersey. Evaluate the level you can actually compete at.
The badge doesn’t matter if you can’t keep up.

⚽ HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS SOCCER ⚽
Central Hardin, South Oldham and Dunbar are the Big 3 to watch as postseason opens
Central Hardin leads a clear Big Three as Kentucky’s girls soccer postseason opens this week.
The Bruins are No. 1 in the MaxPreps ratings, Rundell rankings and the coaches’ poll, while sitting No. 2 in the KHSAA Ratings Percentage Index. Their average placement of 1.25 is the best among the 34 schools appearing in at least one of the four statewide Top 25s.
South Oldham and Paul Laurence Dunbar join Central Hardin in a distinct Big Three, all from public schools. South Oldham is first in RPI, second in MaxPreps and the coaches’ poll and third in Rundell for a 2.00 average. Dunbar checks in third in RPI, MaxPreps and the coaches’ poll and second in Rundell, averaging 2.75.
A sizable gap follows.
Assumption holds the next spot with a 5.25 average, followed by Lafayette at 6.50, Greenwood at 7.50 and North Oldham at 8.00. Sacred Heart, West Jessamine and Frederick Douglass round out the consensus top 10.
The comparison groups schools first by the number of statewide Top 25s in which they appear, then uses average placement to establish order within each tier. A team ranked by all four systems remains ahead of one recognized by three, regardless of the latter’s numerical average.
Seventeen schools earned a place in every Top 25. Highlands, Bowling Green, Elizabethtown and South Warren appear in three of four, seven schools make two lists and six are included by one system. In all, 34 programs received Top 25 recognition somewhere.
The 11th Region is the deepest in the state by this measure.
Seven schools from the region appear in at least one Top 25: Paul Laurence Dunbar, Lafayette, Frederick Douglass, Lexington Catholic, Henry Clay, Sayre and Woodford County. Five of those are among the 17 programs recognized by all four systems.
The 7th and 8th regions are next with four represented schools each. Assumption, Sacred Heart, DuPont Manual and Brown come from the 7th, while South Oldham, North Oldham, Simon Kenton and Oldham County represent the 8th. The 4th, 5th, 9th and 12th regions each have three.
Three regions are absent entirely. No team from the 6th, 13th or 14th appears in any of the four Top 25s. The 2nd, 3rd, 10th, 15th and 16th regions have one representative each. Across Regions 13 through 16, only Martin County and Russell make the 34-school field.
Some of the largest disagreements involve Sacred Heart and Notre Dame, two prominent private-school programs near Kentucky’s borders.
Sacred Heart is fourth in Rundell and fifth in the coaches’ poll, with MaxPreps placing the Valkyries ninth. KHSAA RPI has them 18th. Notre Dame stands sixth with the coaches and 11th at MaxPreps but falls to 22nd in RPI.
Their out-of-state scheduling helps explain part of that gap. KHSAA RPI does not carry over the actual opponents’ winning percentage and opponents’ opponents’ winning percentage of non-KHSAA schools in the same way it does for Kentucky member schools. That can limit the statistical benefit for programs that regularly schedule strong competition across state lines.
Other splits are nearly as sharp. Boyle County is seventh in RPI but 22nd at MaxPreps. West Jessamine is seventh at MaxPreps and ninth in RPI, yet 21st in Rundell. Martin County ranks fourth in RPI and 17th in Rundell while going unranked by MaxPreps and the coaches.

A message for @CoachCrispin HC @AF_MBB and @mcintyre_stacy HC @AF_WBB: The north wall of Clune Arena ( above the student section and below the banners) used to have these words painted on it for years "7080' MSL Where the Air is Rare". Years ago I think it was Coach Bzdelik had it painted over. It needs to come back as we emphasize Fly Fight and Win and fast play. Its time we once again use this altitude to our advantage AND remind our opponents of the thin air as we make them suck gas. Make the opponents suffer.
While I'm making suggestions, I'll throw a simple one out from one old fan. In recent years I believe the entry song for both men and women have been picked by the players to go with their video. They are new generation songs mostly/many a rap beat but one you cannot clap to. You want an entry song that is recognizable, that has a beat, that makes everyone in Clune want to stand up and clap their hands to as our player's entry video is played. Don't be fooled that a new modern song is what the fans want. It needs to be a foot stomping hand clapping song that gets us and the team pumped up. And it's not just because we are old!!
And bring back SECTION-8

When can you ever remember since the 2006-2007 season that Air Force Men's Basketball @AF_MBB had 100+ in the stands for a practice 31 days before our first game? (or ever??) Well it happened today. Great to see many familiar faces and new faces in the small crowd in Clune Arena today. Our Air Force Falcons @AF_Falcons men's basketball team did a 'blue on silver' practice scrimmage, switching up teams, lineups and just playing for approximately 40minutes. Head coach @CoachCrispin said a few words of thanks to the fans afterwards and answered a few questions. Then players mixed with fans on the floor and in the stands to meet fans and sign team schedules.
What stood out to me from observing just this practice:
- A 100% different attitude on and off the floor for this team and these young men individually. They worked hard but yet enjoyed the moment. I can't say if it is the same on different days at practice with no crowd, but they seemed to be 'all in'.
-Coach said at the start of the year we were going to be up and down the court and indeed we were. Non-stop to get to half court quickly and then to find a shot, not much standing around and waiting on the defense to show before reacting. A big change from years gone by.
-We shot and shot some more. No set team lineups so there was turmoil at times and many shots did not go in, yet many did. The biggest takeaway for me was how we went to the basket on both offense AND defense both for a shot and for defense/rebounds
- Conditioning must be happening because these men were up and down the court never stopping! We WILL wear out some teams late in the 2nd half of some games.
Just a few thoughts. Cannot wait for tipoff of the 2026-2027 season.
