1) "It should only be for people registered disabled"
How often we #disabled hear this refrain from people wanting to withdraw or limit our access to help.
Well get this: there is no national disabled register. There is no government or compulsory list.

On this day in 1989, a food chemist from Illinois named Clark Wilhelm Griswold put down a $7,500 deposit for installation of an in-ground swimming pool while assuming his upcoming Christmas bonus would cover the rest.

The lady at the charity shop today told me that she wishes people would clear out their children's old toys in the lead up to Christmas rather than after because she always sees a number of parents in the days before Christmas looking for toys for their little ones who might be strapped for cash. She said there's very rarely anything in just before, but that they get inundated with toys in the days after.
And it really made me think about it in a way I never would have before.
If you know your child is going to get lots of presents from Father Christmas this year, by clearing out your cupboards a few days early, you could make another child's Christmas a lot more special too.
Saw this & thought I'd repost.

There is NO CONNECTION with reality at this point! As an expert in both mental health and disability assessments, let me clear: no one gets a car for only depression and anxiety and both conditions require serious functional disability and serious medical evidence. #TakingThePIP
“It’s hard to see how 32,000 people with depression and anxiety need a car,”
@JoePJRobertson tells @BenKentish, adding influencers showing people how to 'game' Motability claims must be stopped.

The Canary went undercover at the DWP to investigate its spying on disabled people
We went covert on the DWP & uncovered just how they surveil disabled people, including high-speed pursuits in cars. @h_sharland spied on the spies. Read her report:

Wow.
In under 24 hours, 200,000 people have signed up to build a real alternative to poverty, inequality and war.

I keep hearing young men say, “They called me a fascist, so I became one.”
That’s like getting called gay in school, getting mad about it, and then marrying a man to own the haters.
If you became one, it’s not because they said it.
It’s because they were right.

In truth, our welfare system is increasingly the state subsidising employers who pay poverty wages, landlords charging unaffordable rents and corporations extracting vast profits, all at society's expense.

If “striking the right balance” means allowing existing claimants to keep benefits because the government has (finally) accepted taking them away would be cruel & will cause hardship but means still taking those benefits away from FUTURE CLAIMANTS (even though it will still be cruel and will cause future claimants the same level of hardship) thereby creating a 2 tier system than that’s a “balance” I find difficult to accept - sadly many people who are not disabled today will become disabled tomorrow. Condemning future generations of disabled people to greater poverty is not a “balance” I can accept. Labour rebels should stay firm

The “welfare reform bill” is out and let’s be clear: this is not reform - it is devastating cuts. Disabled people will be made poorer, sicker, and more isolated as a result. That it is a Labour government causing this misery will be a mark of shame on the party for years to come.

Good on @turn2us_org for putting together a guide for journalists reporting on the benefits system. With the PIP vote coming up, there’s no excuse for the media to use inaccurate or stigmatising language.
