A K-9 alert led U.S. Border Patrol agents to conduct a secondary inspection of a Jaguar sedan, resulting in more than 30 bundles concealed in the trunk.
The substance in the bundles tested positive for methamphetamine, with an approximate weight of over 15 kilograms. Another approximately 20 grams of loose suspected methamphetamine was also seized, and the driver taken into custody.
The daily work of USBP agents and the K-9 teams continues to successfully keep a significant quantity of dangerous drugs from moving farther into the community.

It’s the end of the road for this driver, who is now facing state drug charges.

FY2026 Results: Smuggling Disrupted. Drugs Seized. Lives Saved. Border Security Strengthened.
FY2026 has delivered measurable results in securing the border and protecting our communities. Across southern Arizona, Tucson Sector agents have disrupted alien-smuggling networks, exposed cartel-linked activity, seized dangerous narcotics, arrested individuals with serious criminal histories, conducted rescues, and continued progress on border security infrastructure.
These local operations support broader FY2026 accomplishments: historically low nationwide encounters, zero Border Patrol releases, record enforcement capacity, significant narcotics seizures, and strengthened partnerships targeting transnational criminal organizations.
Every day. Every shift. The mission continues.
Deadly Risks of Human Smuggling
Border Patrol agents in Sonoita apprehended five individuals following a vehicle stop on Arizona State Route 82. The four passengers were determined to be illegally present in the country, including one person found confined inside the vehicle’s trunk.
The individual reported being placed in the trunk near Nogales, Arizona, with limited water, no means of exit, and fear for his safety. During Arizona’s summer months, confinement in an enclosed vehicle space can quickly become life-threatening.
The driver, a Border Crossing Card holder, was referred for prosecution and the vehicle was seized in accordance with Tucson Sector guidelines.
Another day of a human smuggler endangering lives for profit.

Serving Where the Mission Demands
In some of the most remote and unforgiving terrain along the border, U.S. Border Patrol agents respond where others cannot.
In response to 911 call reporting individuals in distress near Ajo Arizona, Tucson Sector BORSTAR agents responded by air and ground. A Black Hawk helicopter inserted three BORSTAR agents with rescue equipment near the subjects’ location, while three additional BORSTAR agents responded over land.
Due to darkness, hazardous terrain, and the subjects’ inaccessible location, BORSTAR agents used ropes to descend approximately 145 feet to reach them. One illegal alien was extracted by hoist and transported to the Ajo Border Patrol Station. The deceased subject was also extracted by hoist and turned over to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.
