FORTRESS is strategic deterrence in action, ensuring our defenses are hardened, proactive, and ready. I created FORTRESS America because we can no longer rely on two oceans to protect us. That outdated assumption no longer reflects the threats we face. President Trump and Secretary Hegseth understand this and have already paved the way with Golden Dome and a renewed focus on the Western Hemisphere, including Greenland and Panama. All of it reflects a fundamental shift in how we defend America. War has evolved, the threats have evolved, and our defenses must evolve with them. foxnews.com/politics/inside-…

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman: "I don't even know a dramatic enough word to use… models can find bugs that are outside of the normal threat model of what we think a hacker can do… hardware-level, insane stuff… I no longer think we're gonna be able to just patch all the bugs."

SCOOP: Major U.S. banks are detecting unauthorized third-party AI agents inside customer accounts, including some attempting to take actions that appear to be independent of user instructions, sources told Axios. The findings have alarmed banking executives, who are racing to restrict access to their systems as AI moves at a velocity faster than financial institutions can respond, multiple industry and bank executives told Axios. Several banks are now preparing for worst-case and even “day after” scenarios, including how to rapidly secure or restore customer accounts if things go wrong, the people said. Several bank executives told Axios they're struggling to distinguish between human users and AI agents. One executive said banks also struggle to determine whether agents are authorized by customers or potentially operating without their permission, more akin to rogue agent behavior. ‼️ BREAKING: The private keys of 8 certificates from Indian certificate authority eMudhra were compromised, Mozilla says. Firefox blocked them within 3 hours. Each key should be a 116-digit number, but one was just 4. Anyone can guess them and forge HTTPS certs for any website.

🚨 BREAKING: PHP is warning admins to prepare for emergency security updates tomorrow to fix two critical vulnerabilities rated CVSS 9.2. However, security researchers at @watchtowrcyber rate the flaws CVSS 10.0 and say they are RCE vulnerabilities affecting PHP 5 through 8. Information about the vulnerabilities has reportedly leaked ahead of disclosure. No known exploitation in the wild. 🔗 bleepingcomputer.com/news/se… bleepingcomputer.com/news/se…

Happy 251st Birthday to the U.S. Navy! Proud to serve alongside you keeping our nation secure. America’s Sailors project power & defend freedom. Ready to fight and win in every domain.
The Framers of the Constitution understood our freedom depended on our strength at sea. That is why generations of Sailors have answered the call to protect our nation on the deck, beneath the waves, and in the skies above. 251 years. One team. One fight. 🇺🇸⚓

I’ve had a few people write to ask me to follow up on a (reply!) tweet I wrote that’s gotten a lot of retweets. I considered deleting it just to avoid the headache, but I think that would make people more paranoid. So let me share my thoughts.

I think we might lose public key cryptography.

Call me crazy, but I’m not ready to concede. I’m having a different set of reactions entirely, based around a simple difference: I think the main thing holding back mathematics has been human sociology of mathematicians. Here’s why I’m excited: “When will it stop solving problems and build its first original theory?” “Can it figure out how octonions and exceptional algebra are actually part of the mainstream?” “At last! A mathematics that won’t be built around a Putnam and Olympiad-style problem-solving fetish.” Can it at last say “Y’all just wasted a *TREMEDOUS* amount of time and energy on Calabi-Yau phenomenology and Superstrings while calling people closer to the answer, morons, grifters and worse.”? That would be huge!! “I hope @OpenAI will hurry up so that the machine can at last shake its human prejudice from the training corpus and stop deferring to our ‘leaders’.” “At last, a non-PhD colleague!” “Somewhere I have notebooks full of ideas and observations in areas that were too expensive to explore!” “Does this mean that mathematicians are going to finally drop the bullshit about how they don’t care about credit?! Or that they don’t care about money?? Because @OpenAI is now running them in emulation…sped up! At last: a mature and non-infantile version of mathematics!” “Shalom Koide, Tits-Freudenthal, Elliptic Cohomology, and Interstellar.” —- Let our leaders call for a slow down. Then get those leaders out of the way as there is no telling what the rest of us humans can do with these new tools. My condolences to the problem solvers. A tough break for you. But know: It’s coming for all of us. I have no illusions about that. For now at least we humans (e.g. theory builders, great writers) are still top dog. Let’s spend that time wisely and optimistically. For all our sakes.
Navier-Stokes = Hiroshima. @OpenAI #math drop = Nagasaki. We must urgently reset goals + incentives in world where #AI is far superior at math + more. Only solution I can think of: authentically focus on human flourishing (not same as advancing science) psloh.com/math-ai

Samuel Whittemore On April 19, 1775, as British Regulars retreated from Lexington and Concord, a 78-year-old farmer named Samuel Whittemore faced a choice…. He could stand by and watch the British march past his home, feeling powerless, or he could take a stand for his beliefs and become an active participant in the fight against British rule. Whittemore chose to fight. Armed with his musket and pistols, he positioned himself behind a low stone wall… As the Redcoats advanced, he took a deep breath and fired his musket, bringing down one soldier. He then drew his pistols, shooting two more before British troops overwhelmed him…. In that moment, a musket ball struck him in the face, and as he fell, he faced a brutal attack from the soldiers who stabbed him more than a dozen times. Though left for dead, Whittemore’s spirit was unbroken…. He survived this fight and went on to lead a full life, passing away at the remarkable age of 96 in 1793. New blend dropping in his honor shortly.

Feels weird when a major publication clones your project. Good time to remind y'all that, unlike USA Today, haveibeenflocked.com isn't funded by BlackRock; your donations really help — haveibeenflocked.com/donate. ♥️
A police employee in Eastpointe, Michigan ran the same car more than 600 times in 10 months Nobody in the department caught it. USA Today did, by reading the audit logs. Flock is now blacking out the parts of those logs that made that possible
