Sorry to bother you with yet another mental health post, but here it goes: I will try to make it less boring.
I don’t agree with diagnosing people with serious mental illness, such as bipolar, schizophrenia or schizophrenia-affective disorder.
I think it damages people who are affected. It takes their agency away.
I believe that my ‘psychoses’ were religious encounters, not an illness.
Meds do help! When it’s a small dose and a right fit.
But overall, the whole mental health system is a bit of disgrace.
We end up with our experiences being over-medicated, over diagnosed and despaired due to stigma.
I am not mentally ill. And so many others who struggle within modern mental health care.
It lacks compassion, empathy, holistic knowledge and puts a permanent label on people’s heads.
And there is no way out of it.

Has therapy become a safe and risk averse way for young people to have some form of authentic conversation with an actual person?
Why do so many people in Generation Z seek out therapy?

It's a scam: 25 years before Prozac, 1 in 10,000 per year were diagnosed w/ severe depression. Today at any one point in time 1 in 10 are SUPPOSEDLY severely depressed. Around 1 in 10 pregnant women are on an antidepressant despite its harm to a fetus.

Everyday I work with patients severely neurological damage from benzos/antidepressants. When I ask them how they got started on medications this is what I hear:
"My boyfriend broke up with me", "I was lonely and living in a new town", " I started college and was having anxiety living away from home".
Come on people, these are not reasons to put people chronically on these drugs

I'm a clinical psychologist & I would never recommend a family member enter into the mental health system as currently constructed. I do believe there are safe, compassionate, & science based approaches to improving lives. They are just rarely provided.

Interesting how people taking psychiatric drugs never recover from their 'mental illness'.
Now, we know why. The chemical imbalance explanation for taking the drugs is now being publicly outed as false.
