In content like Honorรฉ de Balzac's 1831 Le Chef-d'ล“uvre inconnu or George Gissing's 1891 New Grub Street, creatives describe the struggle that fellow creatives face in producing high-quality content.

Publicly and officially, my last day at The A.V. Club will be March 2nd. I have a lot of emotions about leaving whatโ€™s been a fantastic experience and a dream job, but looking back at the last seven years, what I feel the most is gratitude.
UPDATE: The seven A.V. Club workers in Chicago have decided to take their union-contract-protected severances rather than move to L.A. without a cost-of-living adjustment. A statement from the union (1/X):

Well, this is an interesting new chapter in observing my life as if it's happening to someone else. (I have not resigned from my job...that I know of.)
Replying to @OnionIncUnion
The first workers expected to move were told they had until Jan. 15 to decide. None of the seven A.V. Club employees have yet told G/O management their decision. But for some reason, G/O listed three of those positions on its job site last nightโ€ฆ boards.greenhouse.io/gomedia 2/X

Monster Hunter (2020) is a simple and pure film, most of which could be understood as a silent, made for people who seek images of beauty, horror, valor. Without credits it runs perhaps 95 minutes. It contains several monsters, interesting topography, and a large, piratical cat.

If you like an art that was produced under a regime, whatever the means of production or intentions of the artist, it follows that the regime is or was good. This is why I adore the Brazilian military junta, the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia, the antebellum United States...

You go to the mutiplex. Instead of three turgid franchise films hogging all sixteen screens, there are sixteen basically interchangable 78-minute oaters featuring some combination of rodeo stars, ex-college football standouts, Wes Studi, and Walton Goggins. Everyone wants this.

Hoping that a chastened Hollywood will learn the only logical lesson from the current pandemic and the pressure it has placed on too-big-to-fail tentpole productions, and shrewdly resume yearly churning out literally hundreds of B-Westerns.
