Bird-window collisions are among the most overlooked human-induced threats to birds. Every year, countless birds including migratory species and those protected under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, die after striking glass façades that they simply cannot perceive. Addressing this challenge requires more than awareness. It calls for collaboration between ecologists, architects, urban planners, industry, policymakers, and civil society. The Climate & Ecosystems team at Vidhi is pleased to share the "Proceedings and Recommendations of the 1st National Symposium on Bird-Window Collisions in India", organised by the @Vidhi_India in partnership with @IiserTirupati, @ncfindia, @FTLB_, Nature Future @RGSustain1 @archlivein with support from the @RainmatterOrg. The report brings together the key discussions and a consolidated set of recommendations on research, policy, urban design, industry practices, awareness, and institutional action to help make India's built environment safer for birds. This publication marks an important milestone in taking bird-window collisions from an under-recognised conservation issue to one that deserves serious attention in environmental governance and urban planning. A special shout-out to @crepescularia, @vvrobin. Last-leg of data 🤞 - (1) said goodbye to our trusty steed who saw us though 2.5 years of fieldwork; (2) if anyone caught us on their camera trap walking through the Sholas - hi to those sifting through the photos; (3) ending with an (almost😄-)all-girl-field team! 💪💪

One bird makes it through the 1990s to the present like living, connective tissue- the Grey hornbill. A living reminder that cities carry generational histories—the tapestries of contiguous forest that have now become single threads. Remembering kaans grass, sparrows, vultures.

The male Pin-tailed Whydah impressed the hundreds of birders on site with a stunning 30-second courtship display. But the lady was not impressed! No mating deserved for this ‘subpar’ dance! #birds🐦💕 (: @softcorebirder Instagram) Want to see more? Check out their amazing work!
