Wordgrouch Word of the Day: no, check that — it’s not MY word, but the @Dictionarycom Word of the Year for 2026: (drumroll, please…) MAXXING. The double X defines “the practice of pursuing an activity to the fullest” as in “looksmaxxing.” Gen Z, rejoice! You’re taking over!

WOW! What a game! What a comeback! If I lived in Detroit, I think I might have turned off the @DetroitPistons game in the third period, totally disgusted, and gone about my afternoon duties. But since I rarely get to see my team televised out here on the Prairie, I kept it on — and I’m so delighted I did! We’ve now won five out of six against the Celtics. GO PISTONS!

OH, what a wonderful weekend for this old wedding officiant! The main reason most couples hire officiants (opinion) is that they’re not religious and want no mention of #God in their ceremony. But THIS couple went holy rollin’ the other way!
They chose their venue in part because of the three huge wooden crosses in the background. They wanted an opening prayer, blessing of the rings and THREE Bible verses read, including this one:
“SO DO NOT FEAR, FOR I AM WITH YOU; DO NOT BE DISMAYED, FOR I AM YOUR GOD. I WILL STRENGTHEN YOU AND HELP YOU. I WILL UPHOLD YOU WITH MY RIGHTEOUS HAND.” — Isaiah 41:10
Seems like that first would be appropriate in any circumstance today!

Spotted in front of a Lutheran SCHOOL here in Champaign, IL. If we want to appeal to nonbelievers and have them read our Holy Word, wouldn’t it be better if we spelled the names of the books right? But wait: do Lutherans have a different #Bible than the rest of us?
A long, difficult season is effectively over for my @tigers. Two more home series vs. NL teams and they pack up, out of the postseason. But remember this spring photo of our rotation? I looked at it and wondered how we would ever lose a game. Forget Skubal: would our fate have been different had Verlander pitched AT ALL for the home team? 🤔
On behalf of the NFC North, sincere thanks to the Vikings today for knocking the @ChicagoBears and Ben Johnson off their lofty 59-points-a-game perch and bringing them back to (wet and sloppy) earth. May have lost their starting QB, too? All in all, great day for Da Bears haters!
