I wrote about how overdoses and poisonings involving antidepressants have been climbing for two decades for @guardiannews . While I was working on this article, I learned a lot about antidepressants that surprised me theguardian.com/science/arti…
My fact check of the quoted anti-harm reduction piece, which contains:
Basic errors in arithmetic.
Debunked right-wing Canadian talking point asserted as fact.
National overdose mortality trends described as though unique to pro-harm reduction cities.

A young working class mother on life in Burlington Vt where leaders are unwilling to tackle drug epidemic. “Everyone talks about needle exchange and harm reduction,” she told me. “Okay. But it’s like my children and I are living in the zombie apocalypse": theatlantic.com/magazine/202…

New publication by Hannah Harris Green (@write_noise), who was an invited journalist at #HR25Bogotá. Essential reading for anyone who values the intersection of science and lived experience in harm reduction work.

"There is no such thing as the West Bank — it's Judea and Samaria. There is no such thing as settlements —they're communities, they're neighborhoods, they're cities. There is no such thing as an occupation."

I made a story for the show this week about what a mass deportation operation can actually look like. How it can be done. What to expect. Hope you’ll listen!
Trump has claimed that he will be able to deport between 15 and 20 million people. But neither he nor his team have spelled out how they’d do it. We look into what mass deportation could actually look like on the ground if and when it comes to pass. bit.ly/40F77nr

The new Foxtrot is selling products from the old, bankrupt company that they never paid for, and returned other products to vendors that had been crushed into pieces. My latest for @eaterchicago .
Foxtrot will soon reappear in Fulton Market, its fourth reopening in Chicago chicago.eater.com/2024/11/11…

“We’ve been studying illegal cannabis, God knows what’s in it. That’s like studying moonshine to try to understand alcohol. And then we’ve been studying smoked cannabis, which is the least healthy way to take it,” Grinspoon added.

Presidential candidates have failed to substantively address the overdose crisis heading into Election Day, and I'm quoted in this piece in The Guardian about the lack of discourse in Baltimore. H/T @write_noise
Presidential candidates silent on opioid crisis beyond ‘war on drugs’ rhetoric: ‘It’s easier to point fingers’ theguardian.com/us-news/2024…
This election cycle, candidates are falling back on rhetoric from the War on Drugs Playbook rather than addressing how they'll stop preventable overdose deaths. But the truth is that crackdowns on the border will do nothing to see lives. My latest for @GuardianUS.

Thanks to @RyanMarino @LoganHullinger @Kassandra_Fred for speaking tome for this story.
This conclusion appears to be extrapolated from a study that looked at just 155 patients visiting the same emergency room. The only two criteria to identify CHS in that study are 1. patient uses cannabis daily or near daily 2. patient uses hot showers to relieve nausea symptoms
