ALT An important pioneer of lesbian and feminist literature and art in Canada, many of her works were inspired by real-life women. She wrote novels, poetry and plays, and also painted and sculpted. Her play, Le Voyage magnifique d’Emily Carr, won the Governor General’s Award. Her work pushed against many taboos in Quebec culture. Typically, lesbian women were depicted in literature as neurotic victims. She wrote them as self-determined, rebellious warriors. She was an important woman in Quebec’s queer theatre movement.
