I’d be happy to have a reasoned debate if you expressed a single original thought where reasonable people could differ. You made a ton of assumptions about me and sent a screenshot purporting to show that democrats are incapable of diversity of thought. I took the time to research what you sent and discovered that the authors of the study you presented as evidence for your claim concluded the exact opposite of what you claimed it did. You have refused to acknowledge that. Until you do, the idea that you would call me close-minded is about as intelligent as the rest of the drivel you’ve spewed.
I know for a fact you’re wrong because Clay himself isn’t even using your explanation. He’s saying it was in DC when he was 18 and in Nashville after that. And you know why he’s not making your argument? Because his argument is he was a poor kid whose family could barely afford Cheesecake Factory and that it was a treat. That argument falls apart if his family could afford to travel from Nashville to Florida so frequently that he “grew up” taking trips to Florida. I grew up lower income and I took one road trip a year if we were lucky. So sit down.
First, it's the Democratic Party. That's its actual name. I don't call your party the Repooplican or Rapeublican Party. The deliberate misnaming is childish.
As for why I align more with Democrats, it's not because I agree with every position they take. I don't. I have disagreements on immigration, crime, spending, and some progressive social policies. But I care about constitutional government, the rule of law, democratic institutions, fiscal responsibility, and basic competence.
You say Republicans defend the Constitution as written. Trump tried to overturn an election he lost, pressured his VP to exceed his constitutional authority, and attempted to restrict birthright citizenship by executive order. How does any of that square with your principles?
You oppose when Dems "change the fundamental rules of the legislative branch when those rules stand in their way." But Republicans refused to consider Obama's Supreme Court nominee in 2016, then confirmed Trump's nominee weeks before the 2020 election. They also eliminated the Supreme Court filibuster. So Repubs can pull political stunts that fundamentally altered the composition of the Supreme Court, but Dems can't? How does that not make you look like a hypocrite? Rules for thee, not for me.
You praise fiscal responsibility while Republicans passed another massive deficit-financed tax bill. CBO projected their 2025 House bill would add roughly $3 trillion to deficits including interest. Where's the fiscal conservatism? The economy is in the shitter, everyone knows it, and Trump's obsessed with building ballrooms and arches and golf courses while prices are sky high. Look at gas. Look at groceries. And don't give me the "iT wAs WoRsE uNdEr BiDeN" nonsense. Look at the economy Biden handed over to Trump in January 2025. It's worse today by nearly every metric because of the idiotic and illegal tariffs and the war in Iran. And the economy has done better under Democrats for the since at least Clinton in terms of GDP, job growth, and deficit. The numbers are not close. I'll attach the data. 96% of all jobs created in the last 35 years have been created when Democrats are in the White House. politifact.com/factchecks/20…
Trump has made $2.2 billion since coming back into office. He's given friends and family no-bid contracts including hundreds of millions to his kids through Pentagon contracts. He has a fucking meme coin that he defrauds people with and which allows him to anonymously funnel money through from foreign and domestic entities. He got a $400 million gift plane from a country that invokes Sharia Law.
You say Republicans believe in limited government and parental rights. Yet they're perfectly comfortable using government power to dictate reproductive decisions, restrict medical choices, and override local decisions when politically convenient.
And you're conflating disagreement over criminal justice policies with indifference to victims. Due process applies to everyone, including people here illegally. That's not protecting criminals. That's protecting constitutional rights. If you want to throw out the Constitution to fit your crime fighting narrative, that goes against everything else you say. You can't use the Constitution as a tool when convenient then overlook it when it suits your arguments.
I don't need to endorse every Democratic policy to recognize that Trump's Republican Party has abandoned many of the principles you claim to value. I'm willing to criticize my party when it violates those principles. But if you're going to compare the two, the things the Trump admin has done that are absolutely absurd and violate every the Constitution and norms aren't even in the same galaxy as Dems. They're just not. And you seem intelligent, and I have no idea how you could agree with literally anything Trump has done apart from securing the southern border.
