Sickening if true. These people simply don’t care. Why do ordinary folk put up with this utter nonsense?
Anger as SNP MSPs among 16 parliamentarians to net £15.5k pay rise while Scots struggle with cost-of-living crisis.

When I see posts like this from politicians it genuinely makes me angry.
No wonder comments are restricted.
I am deeply concerned that Poundland jobs are at risk here in constituency of #PaisleyRenfrewshireNorth in #Braehead with many constituents impacted.
Poundland has filed a notice of intention to appoint administrators, putting 11,000 jobs at risk across more than 600 stores and distribution centres across the UK.
I welcome PM Andy Burham's support for Poundland workers & like him, I question why the company's owners chose not to accept a viable solvent offer which @UsdawUnion say could have prevented this outcome. This situation was entirely predictable by @Poundland according to the Shop Workers Trade Union who have been monitoring the situation closely for some time.
I have reached out to parliamentary colleagues to explore what options are available to assist and I hope to meet with USDAW trade union who represent Poundland workers to discuss the local issues in more detail.

Local piemaker explains how Burnham's first Budget will make things much worse:
"I don’t qualify for the business rates relief because I’m multi-site… I’ve got two shops, so I don’t qualify. The minimum wage has increased. I’m not saying we shouldn’t pay staff. I’m saying we can’t afford to pay them…
All my staff have been with us for years. So I’m going to have approximately a £700 a week increase. My suppliers are having an increase too. My supply bills are around £20,000 to £30,000 a week. That’ll go up 10%, so £2,000 to £3,000 a week. So that’s £4,000 a week I’ve got to find…
That’s about 20,000 to 30,000 pies a week. So my costs have gone up. I’ve got no business rates relief. The National Insurance is crippling me. The energy crisis is crippling me. I’m going to have to put my prices up,
Customers are going to get mad. I’m going to get less profit. As a family, as a director, I’ve got to take a 2% cut. So my family, my one-year-old girl. I’m taking a pay cut. The business is taking a pay cut.
How is that breathing room for me? Where’s my breathing space? John Healey, if you’re listening, where’s my breathing space? You promised me. You promised the UK breathing space. Where is it?"

HM Treasury reigns supreme and decides the policy: it presents chancellors with options and says 'pick one'. All the parliamentarians do is act as spokesmen for the Treasury - and that is why nothing ever improves. When Truss and Kwarteng dared to defy the Treasury in 2022, they were bundled out the door sharpish.

I’ve lived through 14/15 different prime ministers from labour and Tories, and every single one of them have done nothing for me or my family

If that really was a Budget to pave the way for an early general election, and voters choose to keep this Government in office, then I'm afraid the British people will deserve everything they get.

All the leaks and pre announcement about the Budget are a distraction.
What ever is delivered today won't be the main issue, it never is.
It's whatever is in the details and whatever they DONT ANNOUNCE that comes later has the biggest impact.
Today is the comedy support act

Labour are the party who will take £500 extra off you in taxes. Then they will give you £5 back and will want praise for cutting your costs, even though you’re still £495 worse off.
Andy Burnham and John Healey are gaslighting you. Snake oil sales men. Never trust Labour ⚠️

Genuinely struggling to understand the optics and political strategy of announcing policies that will save households £1-£2 per week.
You might as well not bother. It’s not even a small win. In fact it probably angers people more than it appeases them. #Budget2026

Listening to the pre-budget chat this morning and what's striking is the low expectations, not just of Labour cabinet ministers but the public too. It's as if we've all accepted that being cold at home, struggling to afford nice food and watching bank balances at the end of the month is just normal, even for people who work full time in good jobs. We're grateful for the promise of £50 a year off gas standing charges because we've slowly learnt to give up on thinking that anything better is even possible.

Maybe its just me, but running a small business has never - certainly not in my lifetime - been as difficult as it is right now and I'm struggling to find reasons to carry it on.
Its certainly not for the work life balance, or for the money. Its not for an easy life, or to relieve avoid stress.
So what is it for? To keep other people employed? To keep paying ever more tax?
Its been 25 years, and I think I'm done.
I applied for a job at Target (a store, not corporate).
Went through the interview process, did a walk-through of the store with a team lead, discussed hours and wages, and still didn’t get hired.
A 50 something, 92% able bodied person can’t get hired as a stock person at Target.
This is the worst job market since the Great Depression.
Are we all supposed to start waiting in soup and bread lines? How is this going to work?
Millions of workers can’t get hired, while employers keep saying they’re desperate for workers.
What exactly is going on?

So the minimum wage is going up above the inflation rate.
But the state pension isn't.
Labour hate pensioners.
