Take a mighty bow!!! In 1998, aged 29, former British paratrooper Karl Bushby walked out of his mother's house in Hull, England, determined to walk around the world and return without using motorised transport. He thought it would take 12 years. It took 28 YEARS. Across 50,000 KMs, four continents and 30 countries, he battled freezing seas, polar bears, arrests, visa nightmares and dwindling money. Yesterday, aged 57, he finally walked back to the same house where his mother had tearfully waved him goodbye. Think of the world he left: no Google as we know it, no smartphones, no Facebook, no COVID-19. Governments fell, borders shifted, generations grew up. He walked through an entire era.

You are right John. The two acronyms are interchangeably used but one is formally/officially recognized by the university and it came up during the early 2010s rebranding. MUK limited the university’s geographical presence to Kampala yet Mak had expanded to Fort-portal and Jinja.

MAKERERE UNIVERSITY CONVOCATION On Saturday last week George Turyamureeba and his group that has taken the Makerere University convocation hostage gathered at Imperial Botanical Beach Hotel in Entebbe just opposite the SFC headquarters and declared themselves unopposed for a second term. This extends their grip for selfish benefits on the convocation until 2030. The AGM that held this election happened fraudulently. All opponents and their supporters were blocked from accessing the venue and most shockingly the convocation has a membership of over 600,000 plus but only 200 people were selected to participate in the election and legitimise this injustice. Majority of these were non teaching staff. These frauds collected subscription fees for over 5000 former students and blocked them, this is theft. All dissenting voices were silenced and all petitions challenging the election were quashed. In 2022 the AGM that brought George and group was violent too and never an election in its true sense. This time round the deployment was heavy too with clear instructions to arrest anyone asking questions. George is the worst convocation chairperson we have ever had and his entire committee is bogus. George currently serves as the university bursar and as a member of management he can never best serve our interests in the university council. I am calling upon all former students of Makerere University and its affiliate campuses to boycott the current convocation leadership. We are going to launch a parallel convocation body to handle our affairs. We will not continue paying subscription fees to a leadership that treats us like kids. We are gallant intellectuals and going forward we are taking charge of our own affairs. Let us leave George and team to be film stars in their own movie. Currently the convocation brings together former students and staff of Makerere University but under "The New Convocation" we are kindly requesting the staff to go back to their own associations and leave affairs of former students to them. We are also going to court to challenge the injustice that happened on Saturday. We will give court an opportunity to pronounce itself on this matter. In the coming days further information will be given about "The New Convocation" and how to become a member. Boycott George and group. They are cabbages and deserve the middle finger 🖕

Habibi, yesterday a mother watched on as the light of day gave way to darkness, then spent the twelve or so hours of the night without an idea where her son could be! She must hoped the regime would bring him back to her late in the night, & probably wouldn't mind if the knock came at 1 or 4 am. She would have opened the door, even celebrated such an outcome, actually. Sadly, she must have also fought with thoughts that her son was being tortured & prayed that he is still alive, at the very least, being that his abduction happened in a country with a long history of abducted people who didn't return. It is likely this made her cry - like it would make most normal mothers cry. What is unlikely is that the mothers of those behind his torture, give two hoots what happens to Louis Ninsiima, or how his mother is pained by the actions of their sons - or husbands for that matter! Louis Ninsiima isn't a petty thief, not a even robber; he isn't a suspected terrorist, rapist, or murderer. None of these! At a time when politicians are being forgiven for stealing billions off taxpayers to buy British-brand clothes that cost more than the combined annual earnings of entire families, & intelligence chiefs forgiven for cooking up evidence to justify budget increases despite people dying & a result - all her son did was befriend a regime critic! Now another day is upon us, but @LouisKyle_ is still unaccounted for. He will miss his classes; his family will keep praying he is still alive, & elites in the regime will wonder why some Ugandans says nothing good about their country! Meanwhile, Museveni will make another speech about Pan-Africanism, & the evils of Transatlantic slave trade, and colonialism and why Africa must unite to end the suffering of her people! #FreeLouisNinsiima

Wow,This shows how weak the Guild has become. A Guild President pushed off stage by bouncers & NO student intervened. In our days,GGB,RGB & NRA would have handled them.Freshers Ball is a students' event, artists must follow its rules.Makerere let its GP be disrespected.

Yamal at 19. 182 games, 56 goals + 64 assists for 120 contributions. Mbappe had 90 games, 39 goals + 29 assists. Yamal already a Euro and World Cup winner by then. Mbappe was the sharper pure scorer (goal every 138 mins), but Yamal’s volume, creativity and titles from 15 make him the clearer standout.

Today I am publishing a new position paper: The Inviolable Writ: Habeas Corpus, Judicial Timidity and the Constitutional Promise of Liberty in Uganda. Our Constitution makes the right to habeas corpus inviolable. It cannot be suspended, not even in a state of emergency. The framers wrote those words after decades of safe houses, detention without trial and disappearances. They meant them. Yet in our courts today, the Great Writ is in trouble. The paper examines five recent files: my own application from Kitalya Mini Max prison; Dr Kizza Besigye and Hajji Obeid Lutale; Christopher Gody (King Zale); Sam Mugumya; and Hon. Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi. In each, the court sent the applicant elsewhere, waited for the State to produce a charge, accepted a bare denial of custody, withheld the writ, or issued an order the State simply ignored. One habit lies beneath all of them. Judges treat a habeas application as an ordinary motion, with mention dates, affidavits in reply, preliminary objections, written submissions and reserved rulings. Every one of those steps favours the only party who is not waiting: the jailer. Sam Mugumya has now been missing for over fourteen months. King Zale has been missing for more than 160 days. The writ exists for exactly these cases. The paper sets out the law, the case record, the gap between the two, and what must change. It also includes a working procedure and court-ready templates so that young lawyers can file and argue an application the day it is needed. The Great Writ, habeas corpus, asks one question: by what lawful authority do you hold this body? Read, download and share: claude.ai/artifact/9RpWp3Bym… #HabeasCorpus #Uganda #RuleOfLaw #EnforcedDisappearances #FreeSamMugumya #WhereIsKingZale
