There’s a new mural in Cabbagetown. 🍁
Ecology of Us, a new 22-storey mural by Jarus at 140 Carlton St., transforms a building into a tribute to the maple tree that stood nearby in Allan Gardens.
This City of Toronto, StreetARToronto mural advances reconciliation, diversity, equity and inclusion through public art, mentorship and community engagement, building more welcoming streets and a shared sense of belonging.🌳🎨

👉If you’re a local organization, contact your local Legion Branch about requesting a collection box to support the 2026 Poppy Campaign.

At 22 years old, Allan “Scotty” Davidson was captain of the Toronto Blueshirts, the team that would later become the Toronto Maple Leafs, and led his team to the city’s first Stanley Cup victory. He left his team, his career, and his home behind to become one of the first professional hockey players to volunteer for the Canadian Expeditionary Force.
On June 16, 1915, he was killed in action after a shell exploded near him in the trenches. He was one of the many thousands of Canadians who never came home and whose names and stories should never be forgotten.

New 30 km/h area speed limit signs will be posted at neighbourhood entry and exit points. Once you enter a signed area, the 30 km/h speed limit applies throughout the local road network until you leave that area.
Slower speeds help reduce the risk of serious collisions and make neighbourhood streets safer.

Sadio Mane, a Senegalese soccer star, earns approximately $10.2 million annually. He gave the world a rude awakening after some fans were flabbergasted when they saw him carrying a cracked iPhone 11. His response was awesome:
"Why would I want ten Ferraris, 20 diamond watches, and two jet planes? I starved, I worked in the fields, played barefoot, and I didn't go to school. Now I can help people. I prefer to build schools and give poor people food or clothing. I have built schools and a stadium, provide clothes, shoes, and food for people in extreme poverty. In addition, I give 70 euros per month to all people from a very poor Senegalese region in order to contribute to their family economy. I do not need to display luxury cars, luxury homes, trips, and even planes. I prefer that my people receive some of what life has given me."

The Greeks visited Egypt (Kemet) as students to learn from Africans. Plato studied in Egypt for 13 years. Pythagoras studied philosophy, geometry, and medicine in Egypt for 22 years. Thales was the first Greek philosopher to study in Egypt, remaining for seven years. Hippocrates, who is called the father of medicine, recognized the Egyptian multi-genius Imhotep as the father of medicine. The Pythagorean theorem was used to build pyramids in Egypt 1,000 years before Pythagoras was born. Plato said Egyptian education makes students more alert and humane. Plato told his students to go to Egypt if they wanted to study the minds of great philosophers. Herodotus, the Greek historian, described ancient Egypt as the cradle of civilization. Our ancestors opened the doors of our nation to foreign peoples; these guests were welcomed with respect and honor according to our traditions, but they used our kindness to destroy our nation.
