Some more progress on my little #gameboy metroidvania. Random gameplay showcasing the Axe and some of the Castle Garden area. #gamedev #indiedev #homebrew

この前ポストしたシェーダーのブレイクダウン作りました。基本のテクスチャは1枚でもう1枚のフラクタルノイズはディストーション用です。 #UE5 #UnrealEngine #gamedev #realtimevfx
この(artstation.com/artwork/V2EEd…)ブレイクダウンを見て再現できるか試していた。まったく別物になったが、このアプローチはたいへん参考になった。 #UE5 #UnrealEngine #gamedev #realtimevfx

Hmm... it might be time for me to make a new "Strike" game. Problem is, from what I can see, the only games that sell on Steam are incrementals, idles, tidy-up and friendslop.
Desert Strike 📅 Release: 1992 🎮 Platform: Sega Mega Drive 🏁 Genre: Isometric action / Shoot 'em up 👤 Developer: Electronic Arts 🏢 Publisher: Electronic Arts

Finally someone said it. Unfortunately wasn't me: Unity splash screen hurts more a game than AI disclosure.
People forget how bad asset flips were on Steam. The Unity splash screen hurt a game more than an AI disclosure does today. Players saw it and quit on the spot. One dev shipped 173 games, they were so bad Valve called it "fake games".

if you want to open the door, just do things. stop getting distracted and fooling yourself into thinking your consumptive activities are valuable or are "research" -> go make things as far as I'm aware this industry in particular has always favored the people that can just make things, and never favored anyone else.
CD Projekt Red has hired so many Cyberpunk 2077 modders that Cyberpunk 2’s associate game director says around half of the quest team are former modders. Pawel Sasko says modding can be a “foot-in-the-door technique” and a “gateway into game dev,” giving talented fans real experience with how games are built. “We actually hired so many modders. I would say, at this point, half of the quest team is all former modders.” Some of the developers working at CD Projekt Red started out making mods as far back as The Witcher 2.

Wishlist math for solo devs: 100 wishlists means 100 people who fully intend to buy your game someday, at 75% off, during a sale you haven't announced yet. #indiedev

This video came up on my feed today, and I agree with what Carmack and Jon have to say. I do the same pretty often: keeping code inline instead of extracting it into a function, or in reverse, inlining one back where it belongs, often improves readability youtu.be/I1iliu0zm_0?si=zUGX…
