The next YC Paper Club is AI for Bio! It’ll be a great time — join!
Innovations like AlphaFold, Evo2, ESM, Hippocratic, and OpenEvidence have transformed the way drugs are developed and disease is diagnosed. AI is now used in some step to aid in the development of almost every drug coming to market. 81% of US physicians now integrate AI into clinical workflows. We are even seeing this scale to individual therapeutics, curing cancers that were never before possible, such as when GitLab founder Sid Sijbrandij recently generated 25 terabytes of single-cell sequence data to achieve measurable remission for recurrent osteosarcoma (a rare, aggressive type of malignant bone cancer).
For the next YC Paper Club, we invite the authors of these works to discuss the exciting future of AI for Biology.
Please join us in Mountain View on 11/4!

Today, we're launching Warp! 🚀
It’s been quite a journey, but I will share some of it here.
A few months ago, Sarthak and I started building a company for a mission we deeply believed in: accelerating scientific discovery through robots. We were incredibly fortunate to have an amazing group of angels back us early, and I'll always be grateful for their trust.
Along the way, we connected with @kevinweil, whose work on AI for science at @OpenAI made it feel inevitable that our paths would cross. In our own parallel worlds, we were envisioning the same future. Hours of conversations revealed just how aligned we were, not just in our urgency to make it happen, but in the values, culture, and kind of company we wanted to build.
At some point, a simple question emerged: If we're running toward the same north star, why run separately? Joining forces meant moving faster and dreaming bigger.
I've always believed in optimizing for three things: working with the best people, tackling the most ambitious problems, and building what feels inevitable for the future you believe in. Somehow, this brought all three together yet again.
Since then, alongside @dpatil, Sol, and @manohar_paluri, we've built an incredible team and are building things we still pinch ourselves over.
Can't wait to share more. Onwards! 🚀
💥 Introducing Warp Sciences, a new company applying AI and robotics to help the world develop new medicines faster.
We’ve raised a $215M Series A led by @lightspeedvp to bring frontier AI out of the browser and into the lab, and build scientific capacity here in America.
I co-founded Warp with my long-time friend @dpatil, FAIR co-founder @manohar_paluri, and drug hunter Sol Reisberg. The early team is full of incredible people like @bkspears9, who helped achieve Q>1 fusion at LLNL.

mRNA is no longer just a pandemic technology. 🚀
In 2026, Moderna and Merck reported a 49% reduction in melanoma recurrence or death risk over five years with personalized mRNA therapy [1].
A Phase 3 trial also met key endpoints [2]. This could reshape cancer treatment.
Meanwhile, mRNA-based RSV vaccines are expanding protection to more adults [3]. 🧬
The opportunity is huge. But manufacturing costs, regulatory complexity and unequal access remain barriers.
For biotech leaders, the next competitive edge is scalable, affordable production.
🤔 Should governments prioritize rapid mRNA innovation or equitable access and who should pay for both?

AI agents are writing more code. How can developers ensure that code is correct?
Microsoft Research’s Proof-Driven Development (PDD) Kit explores a more rigorous approach: it translates a developer’s intent into a formal specification, then uses formal verification to prove that generated code meets it.
PDD Kit works with Verus for Rust and is integrated with @GitHubNext’s Chopin, bringing formal methods into an AI-assisted development workflow for teams.
See the work in action at @github Universe, Oct. 28–29, 2026.

Good story - @HarvardHBS OPM62 FTW Luciano and GALY.

Chocolate is becoming a biomanufacturing story.
Galy just launched WunderHaus, a chocolate made with cocoa grown from cells in tanks in Massachusetts.
Galy is a Boston biotech founded in 2019 by Luciano Bueno and Paula Elbl. It grows plant cells in bioreactors instead of soil.
The investor list is serious. Galy raised a $33 million Series B in 2024, led by Breakthrough Energy Ventures, the fund Bill Gates founded. H&M Group and Inditex joined that round. Earlier backers include Sam Altman's Hydrazine Capital, Material Impact and John Doerr's family office, Eighty Eighty Group.
Luciano first came to SynBioBeta in 2021 and spoke with us in 2023. Back then Galy was known for lab-grown cotton. This year it won Silver at the Edison Awards for its cocoa and cotton platform.
Chocolate companies hit by the climate crisis asked whether the same platform could make cocoa. Galy went from lab to commercial scale in under a year.
How it works:
- Start with a small piece of cocoa bean
- Multiply the cells in brewery-style tanks
- Ferment, roast and grind the harvest into cocoa powder
- Produce in Essex, MA, in repurposed existing infrastructure
Where it stands:
- Cocoa powder self-affirmed GRAS, with FDA notified
- WunderHaus is built for professional kitchens: couverture and baking chocolate
- First customer is Troquet on South in Boston, which stocked its whole kitchen with it
- UAE launch targeted for 2027, backed by a purchase order from a Dubai chocolatier
- Blended with conventional cocoa, with partnerships in the works with growers in Africa and Latin America
Cocoa prices hit an all-time high in 2024. Supply is fragile and weather dependent.
The part I care about most is the platform. A system built for cotton now makes cocoa. Biomanufacturing should work like this: one platform, many crops, production that doesn't depend on weather or farmland.
Congrats to Luciano and the Galy team.

Longitudinal Changes in Wearable-Captured Physiology Before Sudden Cardiac Death
👉"Embedding continuous digital physiology monitoring into traditional cardiology has the potential to aid clinicians in timely evaluation and intervention."
📊"The key signal was not any single abnormal value but a coordinated, sustained step-change from the patient’s own baseline that preceded imaging. Data of this kind could complement the episodic measurements cardiovascular care now relies on, informing both when to re-evaluate patients with known heart disease and how wearable heart-rate kinetics might guide their exercise." 👨⚕️
