On June 2, 2025, Sergeant of the Guard Sgt. 1st Class Andrew Jay took his final walk as a Tomb Guard at Arlington National Cemetery. In a powerful farewell, he laid roses at each crypt of the Unknown Soldiers, then walked off the plaza hand in hand with his 8-year-old son, Finn.

Very sad to learn about the death of Alan Paller, a dear friend & mentor who cared deeply about making things more secure & bringing more young people into infosec w/ the right skills. Alan was great at making important things happen behind the scenes. sans.org/press/announcements…

#OnThisDay 100 years ago, the WWI Unknown Soldier was buried at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in ANC. A grand military procession transported him from the U.S. Capitol to ANC’s Memorial Amphitheater.
There, he was honored with a state funeral before being buried in the Tomb.

Often asked if a red team should be comprised of insiders or outsiders. Just came across this CIA memo, "The 'Red Team'," Jan. 27, 1984, which presents the pros and cons perfectly. bit.ly/3bOZ1hm

Totally agree with @RobertMLee. I studied public policy/economics/national security, with a minor in Russian Studies in college. Since cybersecurity problems are not purely technical, we need expertise from many fields in cybersecurity. – at Arlington, VA

Some interesting PhDs on cyber conflict / policy were written that never made it into books/articles etc. They may not have received the attention they deserve. Some of my favorites:

The S-Band Transponder was the main radio transmitter/receiver on the Apollo missions to the Moon, communicating 239,000 miles back to Earth. We've wired one up and transmitted successfully through it with a big stack of test equipment. 🧵

One of the biggest challenges #infosec faces is that we have a disturbing number of charlatans in senior security roles at organisations.
I had a call this evening which resonated with a disucssion yesterday and a mix of procrastination & annoyance has led to this 🧵...

The #USArmy is an organization that relies on teamwork and the most successful teams are the ones that work together to accomplish the mission and don't focus on individual success.

This #VeteransDay, we honor those who served and we recognize the many veterans who have supported the Hubble mission, from astronauts who serviced the telescope in space to our team on the ground.

Every morning, I rise and hoist my American flag on my balcony. Old Glory serves as a welcome reminder that we're always striving to become a more perfect union. Today and every day, let us remember all the men and women who've fought valiantly to defend it. #flagday2020
