“You can’t measure a person’s heartbeat.” — Derek Jeter Talent matters. But you can’t always measure toughness, competitiveness, leadership, or how much someone cares. Some of the most important things a player brings never show up on a stat sheet.

Read this slowly. Before her passing from stomach cancer, the iconic designer Cressida Rodriguez left behind a chilling reminder of what actually matters when the curtain falls: "I had the most expensive cars parked in my garage, but now I move in a wheelchair." "My closets were filled with couture and luxury, but my body is now wrapped in a standard hospital gown." "I had millions in the bank, but not a single dollar could purchase a second of extra time." "My home was built like a palace, yet I finish my life in a narrow hospital bed." "I used to sign autographs for crowds, but today I only sign medical consent forms." "I used seven personal stylists for my hair, and now I have none left to comb." "I flew across the world on private jets, but now it takes two people just to help me reach the doorway." "I could feast on anything on earth, yet my dinner has shrunk to two pills and a few drops of saline." "None of the fame, the money, the cars, or the glory can comfort you in the end. There is nothing more real than life, and nothing more certain than death." You are richer than you think if you woke up today with breath in your lungs, strength in your legs, and a quiet plate of food in front of you. Do not wait for a diagnosis to start appreciating the ordinary. Hold your health close, cherish the people around you, and be deeply grateful for the simple gift of today.

Tony Robbins on the three questions that reveal why you're unhappy: "People don't experience life, they experience the life they focus on. If you're happy, you are deleting all the things you could be pissed off about. If you're unhappy, you're deleting all the things that are great in your life. Our brains delete and distort and generalize, so if you don't direct it, you get whatever shows up" "What's wrong is always available. What's right is also available. It's just which one you pick. And it isn't about positive thinking. I've never been into positive thinking. I believe in intelligence, because when you're in a lousy state of mind, you treat people poorly, you don't perform, you're not happy" "There are three decisions you're making every moment of your life. The first one is what are you going to focus on. If you're supposed to meet someone at 7 o'clock and it's 7:30 and they haven't called, some people are pissed off, some people are worried. It's the same event. Whether you're angry or worried had nothing to do with the event, it's the habits of your mind" "Do you tend to focus more on what you have or what's missing? Do you focus more on what you can control or what you can't? Do you focus more on the past, the present, or the future?" "If you constantly look at what's missing, it's hard to ever stay fulfilled. If you focus on what you can't control, you're overwhelmed and stressed. And if you focus on the past, which you can't change, that makes you angry or sad or frustrated. If you focus on what you have, you're going to be more fulfilled" "Instead of saying I want a New Year's resolution, another rule for myself, I need to change the ruler. A lot of times we don't even see that we're the ruler"

Kurt Warner shares the lesson that changed his entire career and it applies to everything. He sat on the bench for 4 years in college. When a friend asked the coaches why he wasn't playing, the answer wasn't what he expected: "The reason I wasn't playing was because I was not very good in practice." His first reaction? Allen Iverson mode. "Practice? What're you talking about, practice?" But then he did the math. "In college we play 12 games in 365 days. In the NFL we play 16 games in 365 days." That's less than 5% of your year. "95% of our lives are lived in practice. And the biggest impression we make on people, the way people can understand and really realize who we are, is what we do every day in practice." This is the 95% Rule. And it applies to everything - sports, business, relationships, life. 1: Show Up With Your Best Effort - Compete and give your best every single day. People can't question how you show up - your effort, attitude, and actions. Consistency removes doubt. 2: Trust Is Built In Practice, Not Games - Trust is earned in the thousands of moments before it's given. Before you can be trusted, people want to know you're dependable. Every day. Not just when it matters. 3: Master Daily Consistency - Success isn't about intensity - it's about consistency. Your habits compound. What you do daily defines who you become. 4: Big Moments Are Earned In Small Moments - The little details make the biggest difference. Greatness starts with preparation - it's earned in the boredom of doing the work when no one's watching. Excellence isn't an event - It's a habit. Practice is where trust is built. How you show up daily is who you really are. (🎥 @pttorch) (🎥@kurt13warner)
In 1992, Kurt Warner was the backup QB at Northern Iowa. He was more talented than the starter, but couldn't get on the field. So he asked why. Their answer stunned him... He called it the "greatest lesson he ever learned about life and football." (📌Bookmark this)

10 months ago, I stood in front of the Florida Gators football team. What most people didn’t know was that after I left that room, I went back to work at Walmart. At the time, I was in what I now call my silent season. No big announcements, no packed speaking calendar, and no spotlight. Instead, I showed up every day, trusting God, staying faithful, and preparing for whatever He had next. For eight months, I worked, learned, grew, and kept saying yes to the opportunities God placed in front of me. It wasn’t the season I would have chosen, but it was the season I needed. Looking back now, I realize God was doing His greatest work when it seemed like the least was happening. This year has been filled with opportunities I once prayed for; doors have opened, stages have appeared, relationships have been built, and I am reminded that success is often born in seasons of silence. Never despise small beginnings, because small beginnings lead to big endings.

Bill Cowher shares the 3 things he told his 3 daughters - and his 53 players. "Number one - choices and consequences." "You can control your choice. But once you make a choice, it controls you...Just understand - with every decision you make, there's a consequence that goes with that." Your choices and actions matter. "Number two - it's about the people you surround yourself with." "Are they people that are purpose-driven? Or are they people that are just trying to feed off of who you are?" "I want people around me that are purpose-driven. People focused on doing something impactful and meaningful." "And the third thing - nothing good happens after midnight. Nothing." Three rules. A lifetime of wisdom. Your choices control you. Your circle defines you. Your habits protect you. (🎥Ray Lewis Show: @raylewis)

Great for players to hear. @dallasmavs coach Jared Dudley how to impact winning in a world that is obsessed with scoring: 🔒 Defend Multiple Positions 🛞 Drive and Kick Decision Making 🎯 What's Your One Outlier Trait? Social media glorifies the 20+ point per game scorer. But most teams already have one, or two of those guys. What they’re really searching for are the players who dominate in the margins: boxing out, sprinting back, diving on the floor, the second effort, the winning habit repeated over and over again. Your value isn’t determined by how many minutes you get. It’s determined by what you do with the minutes you've earned. Because that impact creates trust. And that trust creates opportunity. And the players who consistently help the team grow usually end up growing themselves.

Julius Peppers said, "Whatever it is that you do, do it with respect, integrity, passion, resilience, dedication, and gratitude. That alone will make you a HOF person." Your character is what you do. It's your decisions and your actions.

I have covered basketball at the college and high school levels for dang near 40 years now and don’t think I have ever seen a game dominated on defense like Tyrus Thomas & Garrett Temple did that night vs. Duke in 2006. Love seeing these clips of Tyrus! @JohnBrady_Coach @ButchPierre @GTemp17
