Fossil fuels are not the future we deserve. Behind every oil project lies a question we cannot afford to ignore: Who pays the price for the profits? From the communities affected by EACOP and Tilenga in Uganda to vulnerable communities across Africa, people face the threat of environmental destruction, displacement, and a climate crisis they did little to create. Our land is not a sacrifice zone. Our water is not for sale at the expense of our lives. And our future should never be auctioned off for oil profits. Africa deserves clean energy, climate justice, and development that protects people rather than destroys their livelihoods. We must keep fossil fuels in the ground and invest in renewable energy that serves communities, protects ecosystems, and safeguards future generations. The question is not whether we need development. It is whether development should cost us our planet. The struggle for climate justice continues! #EndFossilFuels #KeepTheOilInTheGround #StopEACOP #ClimateJustice #CADUG #RenewableEnergy

JUSTICE DELAYED, JUSTICE DENIED. Today, our detained activists returned to Buganda Road Court for their bail hearing. However, Magistrate Achayo Josephine heard bail applications for only five of the ten activists brought to court today. Of the 13 activists who remained in prison, four were not brought back to court today and are expected to return on 26 October 2026. The nine activists whose cases were heard or scheduled today were remanded until 2 November 2026, when the remaining five bail applications are expected to be heard. Behind these court proceedings are human beings, families, and young people whose lives remain on hold while they wait for justice and freedom. At Climate Activists Defenders Uganda (CADUG), we believe that no activist should be made to endure prolonged detention while seeking justice. We call for fairness, respect for human rights, and a just legal process for every detained activist. Their freedom matters. Their dignity matters. Their lives matter. We will continue to stand in solidarity with detained activists and demand justice for all those who peacefully defend human rights, climate, and environmental protection. #FreeTheActivists #ClimateJustice #HumanRights #CADUG #JusticeForActivists

There's No Planet B #ActNow
Good morning, world. While the world sleeps, our planet continues to suffer. Forests are disappearing, communities are losing their land to fossil-fuel projects, and environmental defenders are paying a heavy price for speaking the truth. Silence will not save us. Fear will not protect our future. And injustice must never become normal. We rise again today for climate justice, human rights, and a future where people matter more than profit. #ClimateJustice #HumanRights #StopEACOP

Our planet is not a sacrifice zone, and affected communities are not disposable. From EACOP to other fossil-fuel projects, people are losing their land, livelihoods and peace while the climate crisis deepens. Development must never come at the expense of human rights and our future. Keep the oil in the ground. Justice for affected communities! #ClimateJustice #StopEACOP

Did you know? Eating more plant foods and reducing animal-based foods can help lower greenhouse-gas emissions, land use and pressure on freshwater resources. It can also reduce the land needed for food production, creating more space for ecosystems and biodiversity. #PlantDiet
Our food choices affect land, water, biodiversity and greenhouse-gas emissions. FAO says agrifood systems account for about one-third of human-made GHG emissions, while sustainable diets can help protect biodiversity and ecosystems. Choosing more plant-based foods is one practical step toward SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 3 (Good Health), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption), SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 15 (Life on Land). We need more conscious choices, less waste and a food system that respects people, animals and the planet. #ClimateAction #PlantBased #AnimalCompassion #SDGs #ClimateJustice

@EACOP_ and other fossil-fuel projects must not come at the expense of affected communities, their land, water, livelihoods, human rights, and future generations. Communities facing displacement, land loss, and environmental risks deserve justice, respect, and a meaningful voice in decisions that affect their lives. No profit is worth sacrificing people's homes, destroying ecosystems, or threatening the future of generations to come. Affected communities must come before corporate profits. Keep the oil in the ground. Protect affected communities. Defend our land and water. BURNING WASTE IS NOT A ZERO-WASTE SOLUTION! Waste does not disappear when we burn it. We risk exchanging one waste problem for air pollution, toxic emissions, and harmful residues. We cannot burn our way to a cleaner, healthier future. OUR CALL TO ACTION: Demand an immediate shift away from waste burning towards sustainable waste management. Call on our leaders to invest in waste reduction, reuse, recycling, and composting. Hold polluters and decision-makers accountable for protecting our air, water, and communities. Speak up, raise awareness, and mobilize your community for real, lasting solutions. WE MUST NOT SACRIFICE PUBLIC HEALTH AND THE ENVIRONMENT IN THE NAME OF WASTE MANAGEMENT! Say NO to waste burning. Demand ZERO WASTE. Choose solutions that protect people and the planet. The time to act is NOW! #StopBurningWaste #ZeroWaste #ClimateJustice #EnvironmentalJustice #WasteIsAResource

Proud to share that I have successfully completed the 2026 Global Youth Climate Training (GYCT) The training strengthened my understanding of climate policy, energy transition, climate finance, youth advocacy and climate action. Grateful to the Global Youth Coalition, Oxford Net Zero and the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment for this opportunity. Now, I look forward to putting these lessons into action and continuing to amplify youth and frontline voices for climate justice. #GYCT2026 #ClimateAction #YouthForClimate #COP31 #OxfordNetZero

Protect our forests. Make clean cooking affordable. Support communities, not just enforcement. Deliver a just transition that leaves no one behind. #JustTransition #CleanCooking #ClimateJustice #StopDeforestation #Uganda
We cannot protect our forests by punishing poverty while ignoring its root causes. Charcoal burning contributes to deforestation and environmental destruction, but let us ask ourselves a difficult question: Why are so many people depending on charcoal in the first place? For many Ugandans, charcoal is not a choice made out of hatred for the environment; it is a means of survival in a country where clean cooking alternatives remain unaffordable or inaccessible to many households. Arresting charcoal traders and burners without addressing the demand, poverty, unemployment, and lack of affordable alternatives will not solve this crisis. It will only punish vulnerable communities while leaving the underlying problems untouched. However, poverty cannot be an excuse for the destruction of our forests either. Our forests are essential to rainfall, biodiversity, food security, livelihoods, and the fight against climate change. If we destroy them today, future generations will pay a devastating price. Uganda needs a just and practical transition that protects both people and nature. The government must invest in affordable electricity, clean cooking technologies, sustainable livelihoods, reforestation, and community education. Charcoal-dependent families and workers must be supported to transition rather than simply criminalised. We cannot demand that ordinary citizens protect the environment while denying them the means to do so. The solution is neither to sacrifice our forests nor to sacrifice our people. The solution is to protect both. Protect our forests. Make clean cooking affordable. Support communities, not just enforcement. Deliver a just transition that leaves no one behind. #JustTransition #CleanCooking #ClimateJustice #StopDeforestation #Uganda

RESISTANCE IS OUR VOICE. RESILIENCE IS OUR STRENGTH. Our planet is bleeding, our communities are suffering, and those who dare to defend our future are being threatened, arrested, and imprisoned. But we refuse to surrender! I am Keisha Ali, Founder and Team Leader of Climate Activists Defenders Uganda (CADUG) @CADuganda256 . I have experienced imprisonment for peacefully demanding climate justice, but prison could not silence my conscience or destroy my determination. We will continue defending human rights, protecting our environment, standing with affected communities, and demanding accountability for the destruction of our planet. You can imprison activists, but you cannot imprison the truth. You can threaten defenders, but you cannot extinguish the fire of justice burning in our hearts. Keep the oil in the ground.@TotalEnergies @CNOOCUgandaLtd @Shell @UNOC_UG @stanbicug @kcbbankug Free environmental defenders. JUSTICE FOR THE 14 DETAINED ACTIVISTS! FREE THE REMAINING 13! Today, Shakirah Kasoga, one of the 14 activists detained at Luzira Maximum Security Prison, was brought back to Buganda Road Court after her health deteriorated and she collapsed during an earlier court appearance. Following growing public pressure, solidarity from fellow activists, and demands from different organisations and concerned citizens, she was finally released on court bond due to her deteriorating health condition. As Climate Activists Defenders Uganda (CADUG)@CADuganda256 , we welcome her release, but we cannot celebrate while 13 other activists remain behind prison walls, separated from their families and exposed to conditions that threaten their health, dignity, and fundamental human rights. How many more activists must suffer? How many more must collapse before their freedom is respected? No human being should have to reach the point of a medical emergency before their suffering is taken seriously. Detention must never become a tool for punishing peaceful activism. No activist should be forced to sacrifice their health for demanding climate justice, human rights, and environmental protection. @CADuganda256 strongly condemns the reported mistreatment of activists, inhumane prison conditions, prolonged detention, and violations of fundamental human rights. We demand accountability, urgent medical attention for all detained activists, and the immediate release of the remaining 13 defenders. To the Judiciary: We are not asking for another delay; we are demanding justice! When the remaining activists return to Buganda Road Court on 19 and 26 October 2026, we demand their release. Their health, dignity, freedom, and right to a fair and timely judicial process must not be sacrificed. To our international partners, human rights organisations, climate justice movements, sponsors, and all people who believe in human dignity: please do not abandon these brave defenders. Your solidarity, advocacy, financial support, and continued pressure matter. Behind every detained activist is a human being, a family, a dream, and a future that deserves protection. At @CADuganda256 , we believe that defending the planet should never cost anyone their freedom or their life. We will continue standing with these activists until every one of them is free. FREE THE 13 REMAINING ACTIVISTS! JUSTICE FOR SHAKIRAH KASOGA! END THE PERSECUTION OF PEACEFUL ACTIVISTS IN UGANDA! #FreeThe13 #JusticeForShakirahKasoga #ClimateJustice #HumanRights #ActivismIsNotACrime

That is the question we must keep asking. How much longer will corporate profits and political influence matter more than human lives and the survival of our planet? We cannot keep sacrificing our future for fossil fuel wealth. The transition to clean, renewable energy is not optional; it is a necessity. Our planet is not for sale, and our future is not negotiable. #ClimateJustice #StopEACOP
Will they ever stop selling a product that equips them with power and influence, while at the same time killing our planet?

As a human rights, climate and environmental defender, I welcome discussions about AI development in Uganda. However, technological progress must go hand in hand with human rights, environmental protection and climate justice. As we invest in AI and energy, let us prioritise renewable energy, empower young people, protect affected communities and ensure that no one is left behind. Uganda's future must be built on innovation, accountability and sustainability, not at the expense of our people or our planet.
