Santiago Castaneda (21) has such an eye-catching profile at the #6 position. 🇺🇸👀 Off the ball, he’s a proper ball-winner, anticipates passing lanes, sweeps up second balls, and dominates aerial duels with his height. Relentless work rate in rest-defense. Far from a passive #6. He pushes right up to the edge of the 18-yard box to sustain pressure, recycle possession, and attack the box from deep. High-IQ footballer.

As a scout, I’ve learned one thing: Talent gets your attention. Identity keeps it. Here’s what I look for when trying to understand whether a young player can become special. 👇

MLS has developed more young foreign players than American players. That’s where the problem starts. Our youth teams are almost as good as any others & as soon as they turn pro they sit on MLS second teams or MLS first teams bench for years. Those same MLS clubs will spend millions of $$$ on young South Americans that have played 50+ first division professional games by the time they are 20 instead of playing young Americans.

Johan Manzambi is a premium talent. Not only does the Swiss midfielder contribute to multiple phases, he sequences them together. His tackles lead to dribbles, then carries, then passes that lead to shots; by the end of such a sequence, he has moved deep possession all the way up the pitch, often on his own. One specific instance from a UEFA Europa League match against FC Utrecht plays in @ffwtbollew's head over and over again: with Utrecht breaking forward, Manzambi recovers into his own third and extends a stretchy leg to hook the ball out. He gets up, nutmegs a defender with his right foot, then slams a pass into a teammate with his left. He bursts forward in the same movement, leaving his tracker in the dust, and breaks beyond a high defensive line. An overhit pass forces him to swing wide to retrieve the ball on the left wing, yet he gets his eyes up swiftly and finds a crisp killer pass to a runner which generates a goalscoring chance. Manzambi flipped the pitch, from tackle to shot, and everything in-between he facilitated, in the space of 15 seconds. Find out more about your new favourite midfielder in Volume I: bit.ly/4anAvDm

The youngest player in Switzerland’s squad, Johan Manzambi has a burgeoning reputation as one of Europe’s most exciting prospects to live up to at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Manzambi is an all-phase midfielder that excels at sequencing actions together. He can turn defence into attack in an instant, stretching a leg in to win the ball back before pivoting forward, bursting past a defender, riding a challenge, then progressing into space either with a driving carry or punchy pass. When looking at his @SkillCorner profile, it's the ball-carrying that stands out. Per 30 Minutes of Team in Possession, Manzambi embarked on at least three more Long Carries than any other Bundesliga midfielder last season. He also ranks first for Long Carries with a Forward Trajectory. This effortless effectiveness at covering large distances with the ball saw him rank as one of the highest-scoring Ground Eaters in the German top-flight. Even then, there is plenty more to his skillset that we're excited to see him display on the biggest stage of them all.

That was a very good first half against Brazil.
Ayyoub Bouaddi was the next big thing in French football. Now, that honour belongs to Morocco. What sets Bouaddi apart - and has done since breaking into senior football - is his unflappable maturity. He looks like a player that has over 500 matches to his name, and that manifests in multiple ways on the pitch. Chief among them is his physicality: he’s tall and lean with long legs that carry him effortlessly across the pitch, packing an intensity that is indicative of his elite-level credentials. Progressive ball-carrying is where he moves the needle in possession, as highlighted in @SkillCorner data, with the propensity to evade pressure before driving the ball forward into space. His leginess is a significant advantage in his ability to chase down attackers and stretch in to win the ball back. This tournament could be a launchpad for the 19-year-old. We will be there.

🇨🇱🇺🇸 Antonio Riquelme (17, 2008) The Chilean-American midfielder has had an impressive start to the 2026 MLSNP season, starting 2 of 3 games and scoring 2 goals. Riquelme recently signed a Homegrown contract with Real Salt Lake and repped Chile at the U-17 World Cup. #RSL

I strongly advise any player, parent, or guardian considering an MLS homegrown contract to read this article. The trend in playing opportunities for MLS homegrowns is clear—and worth understanding. ussoccercollective.com/mls/t…

Former Real Monarchs keeper Jeff Dewsnup was spotted training with Real Salt Lake. Hasn’t played since 2022, took a break from soccer for personal reasons. But also per sources: I was told he would be back in the soccer world, but it wasn’t clarified whether it would be with RSL or not.
