I can be quite skeptical on this concept personally, but we are always up for the challenge of rebutting Rubio and the rebranded crusaders using their own frameworks.

🔔 FRIDAY @ 11:30 AM ET: Can America First Transcend Partisanship?
Ahead of the U.S. midterms, a growing number of progressive, independent, and conservative voices are invoking “America First” to highlight the gap between Trump’s campaign promises and his foreign policy record.
Could this convergence outlast the election cycle and establish a shared vision for American foreign policy? What can realists on the left contribute to this agenda?
Featuring @markphannah of @InGlobalAffairs, James Carden of Realist Review, and @ChrisDMott of IPD. Moderated by @ishaantharoor of @NewYorker.

Went on an Egyptian news network to talk about the current stand off between Iran and the US and possible impact on the midterms.

Part of the fun of Halloween is the ADVENTURE of going house to house in the dark. Moving through space. Unsure what you'll find at a particular home. Freedom to turn in whatever direction looked most enticing. It's not about the damn candy. Standing in a parking lot. Lame

The cost of aid to Israel is far more than direct subsidies. The war in Iran is a subsidy to Israel, and it has hiked food and fuel prices everywhere.
Some serious economic misinformation to go with the antisemitism in this ad that blames Israel for the rising price of American eggs, bananas, healthcare
- it falsely links American families’ grocery bills and healthcare costs to U.S. aid to Israel.
- Aid to Israel is approximately 0.05% of federal spending
- Most American military assistance to Israel goes to buy goods and services from U.S. defense contractors.
- U.S. assistance is overwhelmingly military, not a direct subsidy for Israeli healthcare
- most American bananas come from Guatemala, Ecuador, Costa Rica and Honduras and prices are rising because of El Niño.
Genuinely amazing the delusional cope of the modern online right, who seems to think Uncle Sam backs left wing movements in Latin America (?????) and not right wing ones that happily open up their state to auction off their sovereignty to American finance and corporations.
The anime girls are so brainrotted by culture war that they cannot concieve that the progressive-coded PMC of USAID etc is still ultimately in the service of the same objectives the empire has been since McCarthyism.

There is a real economic cost to Valve’s foray into forced political disclosures. Besides taking 30%, they’re also taking a potentially even larger fraction of developers’ revenue and livelihood by undermining their business with these AI hate campaigns.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Steam requires disclosure of generative AI for player-consumed content via its standard Content Survey (alongside ratings), shown on store pages for transparency, not as political statements. Steam's base 30% revenue share matches major console platforms.

@ChrisDMott: If the Democratic party wishes to signal a break in line with the wishes of their voters, they will not just run on a course correction in the Middle East, but push for it in office as well.

After the last trip to Japan I promised that next time I would do a round-up of off the beaten path shrines, as those are my favorite part. So here it is.

One of the benefits of a great power concert is that the great powers can jointly shut down practically any war they want.
People who rail against a spheres-of-influence world don’t seem to understand the benefits. The entire opposition to it comes from a knee-jerk moralism.
"The Iran War just might help end the Russia–Ukraine War. And the Russia–Ukraine War just might help end the Iran War. But first, senior Trump advisors need to play their cards right."

🆕 While foreign policy rarely determines U.S. election outcomes, the Iran debacle has brought the costs of military intervention directly into American household budgets.
Disillusionment among voters who believed Trump’s promises to end forever wars and pursue a genuine #AmericaFirst foreign policy could lead them to stay home or reconsider their support at the polls.
Will the midterms become a referendum on Trump’s foreign policy record?

🆕 U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently delivered a speech in Greece calling on Europe to join the United States in its existential struggle to save Western civilization.
At the Kyoto Symposium, IPD’s @ArtaMoeini and @ChrisDMott argue that this is tactical rebranding of liberal internationalism.
Their presentation examines how the Trump administration is distorting civilizationalism and explores what a genuinely civilizational foreign policy would entail in a post-unipolar world.
