Repost too.
Cancer has taken so much from my sister already. I just want Lauretta to get through this, finish her treatment and have the chance to live her life again.
Please, don’t scroll past her story. If you can, help us with a donation. If you can’t, please share her story.

Look at this picture, even though a brand-new car in the 1970s cost between ₦1,500 and ₦4,200, very few people could actually afford one, the roads were relatively empty.
In 1974, a brand-new Ford Escort sold for ₦2,290. By the mid-to-late 1970s, Peugeot 504 was sold ₦4,200 brand new.
After the currency transition in 1973, the Naira was stronger than both the US Dollar and the British Pound [My dad said they sent money for living expenses from Nigeria to siblings studying abroad].
Back then, a junior government worker might earn less than ₦1,000 a year. Saving up ₦3,000 required immense wealth or senior-level government work. A car was an exclusive status symbol reserved for upper-middle-class professionals like doctors, professors, and high-ranking civil servants.
Again, in the 1960s and 1970s, the masses did not feel the desperate need to own a personal car because public transportation and urban order actually worked. Commuting with bicycle or public buses was highly organized, safe, and respectable. [My grand father kept a brand new Raleigh "White Horse" bicycle unused until my teens].
It wasn't until the late 1980s and the introduction of the Structural Adjustment Programme (SAP) that the Naira dramatically devalued, local assembly plants collapsed, and brand-new cars vanished out of reach for ordinary citizens which gave rise to the era of imported used vehicles.
Nigerian Civil Servants went to work on Saturdays before General Gowon stopped it.
Yes, for a long time.
From the colonial era up to around 1974, Nigerian civil servants worked from Monday to Saturday.
Saturday was a half day, usually from morning until about 1pm, used for filing, cleaning the offices, and attending to members of the public who could not come during the week.
In Lagos, which was then the Federal capital, all the Federal ministries were open on Saturday morning.
In Ibadan, the capital of the Western Region, the Secretariat also worked on Saturdays.
In Enugu, the same pattern existed in the Eastern Region.
In the North, in Kaduna and Kano, civil servants reported on Saturdays for revenue and local authority work.
The six day system was changed after the Udoji Commission reforms of 1974, when the government moved to the Monday to Friday, five day system we know today.
Even today, the law still allows a Permanent Secretary to require staff to work on Saturday, Sunday, or a public holiday if the public interest demands it.

My top 3 slightly dumb opinion is that being a state governor is a ridiculously easy job if you are from a homogenous state
God I will k!lol myself if my mom don't make it. I failed her as her only son. Despite having a father she took care of me alone as a single mother, I'm tired of this unfair life and the pain she's been going through for months. I have nobody just my mom, my sister and I😭😭😭

A state has been without electricity for four days, yet the governor is busy campaigning for the reelection of an even bigger failure🤦🏿♂️
This shows exactly where the interests of the political class lie

If there’s one thing I could ask life for right now, it’s for Lauretta to beat cancer and never have to worry about it coming back. I just want my sister to be okay again.
We’ve been on this journey for a while, and she has just two more chemo sessions before her break. She can’t afford to miss either of them. Guys, please, let’s give my sister a chance to beat cancer and live her normal life again.

This really hurts to watch. Looking at Lauretta before cancer and seeing her now… you can’t tell me cancer doesn’t change a person’s life. I just want my sister back. 🥹🥹🤲🏾
Please let’s help Lauretta get her life back.

21 years ago I named "Reddit" and everyone said it was a horrible name, but I insisted one day people would say "I read it on reddit" and used my CEO-privilege to overrule everyone + kept the name. Now the company twitter account (unbeknownst to them) is making the joke. Heh.

Cousin marriage is halal. Allah ﷻ permitted it. A kafir born out of a one night stand who was nearly aborted is not going to lecture Muslims about morality

Guys please let’s help Lauretta get there 🤲🏾🤲🏾
I know it’s not easy seeing me ask for help for my sister over and over again, but I honestly don’t know how else to do this.
Lauretta has just two more chemotherapy sessions before she gets a break, and I really want us to finish these last two without another setback.
If you can donate, please help us. If you can’t, please repost.
