“I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo.
“So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.” ~Gandalf J.R.R. Tolkien
I watched these playoffs during the early months of COVID and it was pretty entertaining, especially knowing the outcome.
40 years ago tonight, the @Mets won their second World Championship. You know how excruciating that post season was? They never played with a lead at home until Ray Knight’s home run in the 7th game of the World Series. Both wins at Shea against Houston in the NLCS were walk-offs, having not had an earlier lead, as was, of course, their win in World Series game 6 against the Red Sox. Remarkable. Happy Anniversary to the 1986 World Champions.

This is such a great quote from Christian Yelich to @MLBNetwork.
This is what being a fan is all about.
"We understand what this team means to people. We understand, that when the Brewers are playing well, it directly impacts the happiness of the community, and people's lives. People have grown up with this team. People have made memories with their parents, kids, best friends, and a lot of those common memories are with the Brewers. You don't take that lightly."
Skubal will be great for the Mets after they fix his pitching mechanics a bit.
.@JimBowdenGM predicts top SP free agent Tarik Skubal will sign a contract in the $350-$500 million range.
Bowden also lists the Mets as a “best fit” for the former Dodger.
Should the Mets pay Skubal 🤔⁉️

Today we lost Walter Koenig.
Some thoughts about a fine actor and an exceptional human being...
All this shit—minus Conan O’Brien—sucks. I can’t believe this is the stuff that people are spending their lives listening to. Even as entertainment, this is as stupid as you can possibly get.

Changes the Rays made to Freddy Peralta pitching after trading for him, per @jorgecastillo
- Exclusively pitching out of the stretch
- Moved to 3rd base side of rubber
- Widened his stance
- Sped up his delivery
- Gave him a drill package to incorporate into his preparation to generate more strength from his legs
- Instructed him to throw more changeups
Peralta allowed three runs in 34 innings -- good for a 0.79 ERA -- over his final six regular-season starts and he was named the American League Pitcher of the Month for September

Wow. Freddy Peralta pitches his team into the World Series. Just like David Stearns planned it. Wait
