Your AI second brain is just a folder, and it takes about 15 to 20 minutes to set up.
Your notes are scattered across Notion, Apple Notes, Google Docs and scraps of paper. Claude has no idea any of it exists, so every new conversation starts from zero.
The fix is one Obsidian Vault.
It's free and local, and every note is just a markdown file on your disk, so Claude Code can read, write and grow your notes with you.
The prompt:
"This folder is my Obsidian Vault. From now on when I ask you to save a note, create a markdown file here with a sensible filename and header. Use folders: daily/, projects/, people/, ideas/."
The setup (this assumes you already have Claude Code installed):
→ install Obsidian, free at obsidian(.)md
→ create a Vault at ~/Documents/Vault
→ cd into that folder and run claude
→ paste the prompt
→ capture a daily note, an idea note and a person note
→ edit one by hand, then have Claude read it back
→ write a CLAUDE(.)md at the Vault root with your house rules: folder conventions, tag style and formatting
Without a CLAUDE(.)md, Claude improvises a new folder structure every session, and five days in, it's chaos.
scattered notes → 1 Vault → 1 prompt → 3 starter notes → 1 set of house rules
Start tiny. Pick one thing you wrote somewhere else this week and have Claude move it into the Vault.
