This guy's got away with it. He'll be back on the roads tomorrow.

My urban pet hate is when they pedestrianise an area, but make no or hopeless provision for cyclists so you are pushed on to busy dangerous roads. Maidstone is a prime example, also the Stand. Is Oxford Street like that?
if you commit a crime in britain but do so from your car (or from near it apparently) you can basically get away with anything #killallmotorists

I wasn’t expecting walking down the middle of the newly pedestrianised Oxford Street to feel so lovely (never a word I’ve used for Oxford St before!). It instantly feels like something that should have been done years ago.
Well done, @MayorofLondon, for finally getting it done.

When people constantly portray cyclists as law-breaking nuisances, it can encourage drivers to see every cyclist as a problem rather than a person sharing the road. That can affect how much space they're given, how closely they're overtaken and how patiently drivers behave.

I don't agree with illegal motorbikes, I don't agree with inconsiderate cycling, but it feels like a case of "we can't handle change so we'll make the people riding bikes our scapegoats".
Who would have guessed, cyclists ignore pedestrianisation of Oxford Street
Could they face penalty? Unlikely, given that they rarely do elsewhere!

People suffering from Car Brain* will say they want traffic rules enforced equally for all modes, but that's not true. They want excuses for driving and expulsion for cycling.
For example, you won't see frantic headlines about driving 40MPH on city streets even though that's killing people. Instead, you'll see headlines suggesting riding a bicycle is the clear & present danger facing American cities.
*Car Brain is what causes people to commit and/or justify antisocial behavior involving a car -- even behavior they would otherwise condemn.
