New home of @David_Charts. Armchair economist, sci-fi fan, impressed by good data viz. Node in the vast left wing conspiracy. Facts have a liberal bias.

My big idea: A fix the darn country constitutional amendment. ✅Ban partisan gerrymandering ✅Create term limits for Congress and the Supreme Court ✅Overturn Citizens United and get dark and corporate money out of politics ✅Ban stock trading by federal officials

The answer is simple. The top 10% have 70% of the net worth. Let’s tax that down to 50%.

Fixing affordability means tax hikes on the rich to pay for healthcare and education for middle-class. Lower Medicare age, expand ACA subsidies, CTC, SLF, free tuition.

My friend @scottahodge is doing tremendous work uncovering the broad abuse of IRS "non-profit" designations by what are functionally quite profitable businesses. Those looking to close egregious business tax loopholes should be following Scott's work.
It’s No Joke. Nonprofit Hospitals Are More Profitable than For-Profit Hospitals Studies find that nonprofit hospitals achieve greater profits with higher average prices than for-profit hospitals. On average, nonprofits have 29% greater profits than for-profits. scottahodge.substack.com/p/i…

Beware of the polls, but do note the 7 races that could change control of the 🇺🇸 Senate: • Alaska • Iowa • Kansas • Maine • Michigan • Ohio • Texas (via @washingtonpost)

And remember the bounce-back jobs were not guaranteed. It took 7 years to get jobs back to crisis in the GR. Even discounting Biden’s record and boosting Trump’s, Biden had faster job creation.

A few additions to Neil's argument: 1/ The unemployment rate is ***lower than it was a year ago***. Any "AI is leading to higher aggregate unemployment" arguments need to contend with that fact. 2/ You could theoretically construct a counterfactual, but...
Faster AI adoption isn't leading to higher unemployment, per @RenMacLLC . "If AI were costing jobs, the states where adoption rose most since November should be seeing jobless rates climb. They aren't. Across 46 states and DC, the correlation between the rise in AI use and the change in unemployment is -0.10, essentially nothing. For now, there's no sign that AI is pushing up unemployment where it's spreading fastest."

Microsoft got $19 billion in tax breaks from Trump. It pays a lower federal income tax rate than a teacher. It’s spending $60 billion on stock buybacks. Its CEO made $90 million last year. “Corporations will create jobs if they get tax breaks” is a total scam.
Microsoft just made $133.7 BILLION in net income last year. Today they announced they are getting rid of 60,000 workers. Fuck these companies man.

Bigotry / racism, the real Republican platform designed to make poor people vote for tax cuts for the rich.

About 2.3 million have lost health insurance already in 2026 thanks to Trump.

It's tempting to think the fall in the Euro is about France, but that's not the case. The Euro started its fall on Sep. 10, which is when the Saudi East-West pipeline was attacked and oil started spiking. As soon as oil prices fall, the Euro will recover. robinjbrooks.substack.com/p/…

I said this months ago. Republicans have literally no policy or ideas. They are running entirely on white supremacy, anti-trans and anti-immigrant bigotry.

The Mamdani Difference isn't that he's secretly moderate, it's that as a mayor he's accepted the responsibility of governing — setting priorities, making tradeoffs, worrying whether ideas work — while leftist members of congress can just post takes. slowboring.com/p/those-who-w…

When politicians convince you that a tiny minority is a greater threat than poverty, homelessness, and unaffordable healthcare, you’re not witnessing leadership. You’re witnessing manipulation.

Next year, 300,000+ Virginians are likely to lose their Medicaid because of Trump’s cuts. It’s unconscionable. While Trump gets billions richer, he purposefully strips Americans of their health care. We MUST reverse these cuts.

“My parents died years ago. I was very close to them. I still miss them terribly. I know I always will. I long to believe that their essence, their personalities, what I loved so much about them, are - really and truly - still in existence somewhere. I wouldn't ask very much, just five or ten minutes a year, say, to tell them about their grandchildren, to catch them up on the latest news, to remind them that I love them. There's a part of me - no matter how childish it sounds - that wonders how they are. "Is everything all right?" I want to ask. The last words I found myself saying to my father, at the moment of his death, were "Take care." Sometimes I dream that I'm talking to my parents, and suddenly - still immersed in the dreamwork - I'm seized by the overpowering realization that they didn't really die, that it's all been some kind of horrible mistake. Why, here they are, alive and well, my father making wry jokes, my mother earnestly advising me to wear a muffler because the weather is chilly. When I wake up I go through an abbreviated process of mourning all over again. Plainly, there's something within me that's ready to believe in life after death. And it's not the least bit interested in whether there's any sober evidence for it. So I don't guffaw at the woman who visits her husband's grave and chats him up every now and then, maybe on the anniversary of his death. It's not hard to understand. And if I have difficulties with the ontological status of who she's talking to, that's all right. That's not what this is about. This is about humans being human.” ― Carl Sagan
