review #Ramayana : 127/5 ⭐️

Yash’s performance was such a gleefully “larger-than-life, chew scenery, steal the movie out from the bland(er) hero” bad-guy turn that (at its best) I thought I was watching an early-1990s DIE HARD knockoff or a post-BATMAN action-fantasy flick.
Yash shares why playing the villain is all the more fun in #Ramayana: Rise of a Legend.

RAMAYANA is a fantastic film. A timeless epic told with the breathtaking grandeur of modern technology.
Seeing it on an IMAX screen in 3D, I was blown away by its cinematic magnificence. Yash’s Ravan was spectacular, Ranbir Kapoor’s Ram had great spiritual grace, Sai Pallavi was magical as Sita.
Worldwide audiences will be gobsmacked by this awesome film from India.
Congratulations to producer Namit Malhotra, director Nitesh Tiwari, all the brilliant cast, and everyone who created this film for the ages.

I watched the Lord of the Rings movies before I ever picked up the books. The movies blew me away so much that I ended up buying the entire series. After reading, I realized how much the movies left out, altered and what nuance was missed.
If I never watched those movies, I never would have read JRR Tolkien.
Which brings me to the release of the Ramayana movie. There is a certain irony within our Hindu community. We criticize those "Hindu In Name Only" types for not preserving their traditions, while doing very little to meet them where they are.
We spend so much time preaching to the choir, reaching people who are already invested in their Hindu identity, that we often overlook those who aren't. I was guilty of this until I started teaching teenagers and young adults. You then realize the uphill battle you face in capturing mind share.
The upcoming Ramayana movie illustrates this perfectly.
Regardless of its artistic merits, or whatever criticism you might have of its portrayal, this film has the potential to introduce Sri Ram's story to an audience that might never attend a mandir, listen to a lecture, or watch Hindu educational content. This movie might spark curiosity or inspire some to go back to the original sources.
As a community, we cannot complain that people are disconnected from their traditions while dismissing the very things that might inspire them to reconnect.
I have my tickets and will be going to see it next week. My kids know the story of the Ramayana, have enacted it on their own and are eager to see its portrayal. That level of excitement alone is worth the price of the tickets.
Afterwards we will critique as a family, discuss where the movie went wrong and what can be improved. But lets not miss the forest for the trees.
Perhaps the greatest threat to preserving Hindu traditions isn't simply how they're portrayed, but whether the next generation cares enough to preserve them in the first place.

Ramayana: Rise Of A Legend🎬
Now THAT was a spectacle!
A beautiful display of Indian culture with incredible mythology & lore. The scale was massive, the special effects were stunning & the music absolutely slapped!
I knew very little going in, & I loved watching this story unfold. Genuinely surprised by the direction it took early on, but man, did it set up some fireworks for the second half & Part 2!
So many characters, yet they all made an impression. Ranbir Kapoor is the f*cking man!
My biggest gripe? All that war & action with barely any blood. An R rating would’ve given those battles more bite, but even without it, the action still kicked ass.
I saw the full Hindi version, which is my preferred way to experience it. But I’m curious how they pulled off the English version, so I’m definitely going to try to catch it again in theaters.
And that cliffhanger?! Give me Part 2 immediately!
Sad to see so many empty seats for this one. This is the kind of epic that deserves to be experienced on the biggest screen possible!
4.5/5⭐️

The stories we've grown up hearing since childhood, coming alive so beautifully on the big screen… makes me so happy. ❤️
Ranbir, Yash, Sai Pallavi… magical. ❤️❤️❤️
@malhotra_namit & @niteshtiwari22 take a bow. Kudos to all your efforts in pulling off a film of this scale. Congrats to the entire team of #Ramayana !❤️❤️
I watched Namit Malhotra’s Ramayana yesterday, first day, first show right here in Bengaluru (IMAX 3D). It took a while to digest everything I experienced on that screen before writing this.
Going in, as a musician and filmmaker, I fully expected to analyze the technical aspects, the score, the sound design, the visual effects. But within 4 minutes, the film completely drew me in. I forgot to critique and simply got engrossed in what is, without a doubt, one of the greatest achievements in Indian cinema history. What was shown in the trailers was nothing; they barely scratched the surface. Every single department came together to tell this soul-stirring story in the most epic, magnificent fashion. Finally, a film on the Ramayana that does complete justice to its source material.
The film opens with Ravana’s origin story, crisply edited and immensely powerful. The writing around Ravana is brilliant: it builds a complex character where you almost begin to empathize with him, yet the script masterfully holds you back, establishing the perfect antagonist to Lord Ram. To be completely honest, it took me a moment to accept Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram initially, but the moment his character enters the jungle in exile, he embodies Lord Ram in every movement, posture, and expression. Every performance across the ensemble is stellar. @TheNameIsYash ’s presence is unbelievable, mark my words, he is set to become the next massive Indian star in Hollywood.
What makes this film far more powerful than typical high-budget Indian features is its restraint. It never succumbs to excessive, bombastic dialogue or physics-defying action sequences for cheap thrills. It holds a sense of dignity, grace, and reverence befitting Lord Ram.
Before walking in, I was uncertain about the score, having heard the endless online debates surrounding it. But seeing it synced to the imagery, I realized it is the precise, elevated soundtrack an epic of this scale demands. The magical combination of @arrahman and @HansZimmer excel extraordinarily. The score soars with majestic weight in the grand moments, recedes into delicate nuance during the quiet ones, and amplifies every emotional beat. Zimmer's & Rahman’s touch, uplifts the narrative in a way few composers on earth could achieve.
Visually, the CGI easily rivals (and in many places surpasses) top-tier Hollywood studio productions. The climax sequence featuring Jatayu against Ravana is genuinely one of the finest visual effects sequences I have seen in global cinema. The finished VFX is a dramatic leap forward from the early trailer footage, proving how tirelessly the post-production team worked up to the release.
@malhotra_namit is a true visionary. From building @PrimeFocusIndia to leading @dneg to international dominance, and now pouring his mastery into @WorldOfRamayana , he has delivered a cinematic landmark for generations. Paired with the sharp storytelling, direction, and structural depth brought by @niteshtiwari22 and @Sriram_raghv , the film achieves world-class standing.
Do yourself a favor: watch this on the largest screen possible, preferably in 3D. I bet on anything, you will experience at least five genuine goosebump moments that leave you in awe, and bring tissues for at least two scenes; the emotional weight will hit you deeply.
