The Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, @DeanMacpherson , today held a media briefing at the GCIS Imbizo Centre to provide an update on the Construction Industry Development Board (cidb)’s efforts to strengthen accountability in the construction industry.
The Minister announced the removal of 13 construction companies from the cidb’s National Register of Contractors for misrepresentation, bringing the total number of contractors removed and blacklisted since June 2024 to more than 75, compared to just one between 2002 and June 2024.
“These actions are about more than removing contractors from a register. They are about protecting public money, ensuring that companies entrusted with public infrastructure have the capabilities they claim to possess, and creating a fair environment in which honest businesses that comply with the rules and deliver quality work can compete,” said Minister Macpherson.
The Department and the cidb remain committed to strengthening oversight, protecting public funds and ensuring accountability in public infrastructure procurement.

I welcome the Western Cape High Court’s order authorising the next steps in our court application concerning Knoflokskraal. This marks the first step in our efforts to restore the rule of law and address the unlawful occupation of this state land.
The order allows us to serve and notify all affected parties, including through public notices and community announcements, ensuring that everyone has an opportunity to engage with the legal process.
We will not allow the illegal occupation of our land parcels to go unaddressed. We will pursue this matter through lawful, transparent and court-supervised processes to ensure that the rule of law prevails.
